Best Rock Climbing

Mount Lemmon

READERS' PICK: It's clear the greatest problem facing our nation is the decline of moral values. Just the other day, for example, we heard roller-blading referred to as an "extreme sport." Excuse us, but how many serious spinal injuries have been caused by roller blades? In order to orient ourselves down the path toward ethical rectitude, our nation needs more sports which truly challenge the limits of human potential; sports with a proven record of devastating, life-altering injuries. In short, more rock climbing. Fortunately for those self-righteous desert denizens with the proper equipment and fortitude, Tucson has some of the region's most upstanding and variegated climbing areas. Climbs for amateurs taking their first stab at virtue, as well as those that demand the integrity of a William Bennet, can be found only an hour's drive from our prudent city at scenic and humbling Mount Lemmon. Go there and shred with God.

READERS'POLL Runner-Up: Sabino Canyon (See Best Day Hike, Best Moutain Bike Route.)
