Best Group Hug

NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Celebration

STAFF PICK: We were baffled by this assignment at first. How were we supposed to investigate--aren't such things protected by the doctor-patient privilege, or something? Surely it's unreasonable to infiltrate therapy sessions to determine the best group hug. After much research indicating the only thing close to a group hug was the post-victory craziness around the university, we were informed the category assigned was actually "Best Brew Pub." But it was too late; we were already thinking. Already remembering the crazed camaraderie; the unabashed tears; the touching. That March madness was just like being home for the holidays: drunk people who don't know each other stumbling into urgently outstretched arms, sometimes causing injury, their joys and laughter inevitably running full course into frustration and anger. Eventually they stumble away to sleep it off, realizing in the light of day they acted a little foolish...and tipped over somebody's car.

But the NCAA victory gets top honors, in that there was so much bonding going on, the groupies had to be broken up with tear-gas-wielding riot police. But up to that point, the outpouring of collective goodwill was kinda sweet.
