Best Art Without A Gallery

Phantom Galleries
221 S. Church Ave.
221 N. Court Ave.
38 E. Congress St.

STAFF PICK: Phantom Gallery is a brilliant idea that originated in Tucson and is now being copied by cities all over the country. The Tucson Arts District Partnership has worked out a deal with the owners of empty downtown storefronts to provide high-profile exhibit space to local artists. Thus, formerly forlorn windows are now enriched with original artwork; and emerging artists have a place to show their stuff. The displays rotate every month or two, and the diverse pieces--from paintings to sculpture--are so delightfully unpredictable we're always excited to see what pops up next.
