Best Personal Trainer

STAFF PICK: Here's the bottom line on personal trainers: If you have the desire to get in shape but are woefully lacking in will power, a good personal trainer can make you wake up actually wanting to go to the gym and lift weights. Todd Judge, the general manager of downtown's Fitness Institute of Tucson (FIT), makes every workout an adventure. Judge trained the rich and famous at the fancy Miraval fitness resort north of Tucson; but lucky for us mortals, he's now in charge of FIT, 110 S. Church Ave. His workouts are never the same: He moves fluidly from fitness machine to free weights to aerobic workouts to excruciating abdominal routines. Firm but never harsh, Judge works with you as a partner to help you reach your fitness goals. Since his main mission is to help clients achieve a lifestyle change that emphasizes fitness, he would rather see you progress steadily until working out becomes a necessary part of your life rather than a chore. It's true that a personal trainer might be considered a luxury, but for we slugs who've tried a dozen times to work out on our own and failed--and if you've seen us, you know who we are--Judge is no less than a miracle worker.
