Best Truck-Stop Diner

STAFF PICK: Jenks Café, 5000 N. Casa Grande Highway, blows away all those 24-hour chain restaurants. Although it's about the size of your cousin Nick's rec room and the johns are outside the building, they've got 16 booths, incredible ambiance and great food, if you believe in traditional values: first-rate corned beef hash, superb biscuits, and Mormon gravy that's pure ambrosia. Besides the great stuff like meatloaf, liver and onions and chicken-fried steak, there's a fun-packed kids menu and the obligatory low-cal beef-patty-and-cottage-cheese plate. Jenks deserves the Academy Award for Real Food.
