Best Bagel Shop Logo

STAFF PICK: So much of contemporary advertising is demeaning, plastic and unimaginative. Bombarded daily with visual manipulation, it's no wonder we've lost our sense of wonder and appreciation for the inspired and sublime in signage.

Enter the Hot Bagel Bakery logo at 2829 E. Speedway, two robust bagel men flanking the shop's moniker. Unique and full of excitement, this logo is the most noteworthy example of advertising that exists within the vast and quickly swelling bagel industry. Originally created by a doodling employee more than 20 years ago, the festive little dancing Russian man holds a bagel so large it's partially responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union. This hot bagel may not have ended the Cold War, but its diplomatic representation communicates more than any demographically studied, computer-generated advertising gimmick ever could. We don't have to urge you to try a bagel from the Hot Bagel Bakery--their spokesperson says it all (arms crossed on his chest, foot kicked high into the air) with eloquent flourish.
