Best Patio At A Bar

The Shanty
401 E. Ninth St.

READERS' AND STAFF PICK: Maybe it's the real trees canopied over the patio, instead of umbrellas or an awning, that make The Shanty's outside ambiance a destination. The time of year doesn't matter (unless it's during the two weeks out of the year when it's too cold to sit outside), just kick back and enjoy your favorite drink. The atmosphere on the patio is intimate and conducive to good conversation, so you'll want to bring your best friends or the occasional (hip) business client. The Shanty has become popular with just about every element in Tucson, including students, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. The splashing of the fountain can be mesmerizing, not to mention refreshing, as the chill droplets splash against your skin--might be good reason to cuddle up closer with your companion. If you go alone, the patio is also a nice place to just sit outside in the afternoon, read a book and listen to the wind rustle through the trees.

READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP: Cushing Street Bar & Restaurant, 343 S. Meyer Ave., and Hours, 3455 E. Grant Road.
