Michael McNulty

Michael McNulty is a water-rights and technology attorney with Brown and Bain law firm, who worked for Congressman Morris Udall in Washington, D.C., with the House Interior Committee.

BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT

My favorite place in Tucson is Crossroads Restaurant (2602 S. Fourth Ave.). It has this timeless quality going and seems like it hasn't changed in 30 years. Even the people who work there have a timeless quality--they never get old. It also attracts a total cross section of society; you can see (city manager) Michael Brown and just regular everyday people there at the same time. I like the tongue tacos, but usually the people I'm with get so grossed out by the idea that I don't get to order them much.

BEST CULTURE ON A SHOESTRING

I think it's great there is so much theatre in Tucson. There's a lot of edge to theatre that doesn't have money behind it.

BEST MATING RITUAL

You'll enounter a strong image when you come across the massive ladybug mating rituals on Mount Lemmon. There are tens of thousands of ladybugs gathered on the bottom of huge Ponderosa Pines, so many you can scoop them up with your hands by the thousands.

BEST NIGHT HAUNT

I like what a strong culture we have for loving nature. I love going to Catalina Park at night to listen to the owls. You can call on two or three different species of owls--you just order them up, it's wonderful. But I'm not very good at calling owls.

BEST URBAN EVOLUTION

What's a lot of fun is to watch the evolution of Congress Street. Little studios crop up, but only last a few months. It's a blast to walk up and down every month or two and see what's showing up.

BEST UFO LOOKOUT

My daughter is 11, and a huge X-Files fan. A person I know said they saw a UFO at a friend's house in the Tucson Mountains, and she was fascinated by that.

BEST PLACE FOR MONSOONS

There's one thing I don't want to escape about Tucson summers. I never want to miss the storms in July. From my office window (19th floor of the Norwest Bank Building) the sky gets blacker and blacker, and when it rains it feels like you're underwater. The whole building shakes, and there's nothing quite like it.

BEST QUIET ESCAPE

A really magical place in Tucson is the painting studio of Gail Marcus-Orlen. She's really good and has tons of these vibrant, colorful paintings in her studio. I have one in my office that I love.

BEST VISION OF TUCSON

When the foothills turn yellow with the Palo Verde blossoms, that's what's beautiful about Tucson.
