15th Annual Best of Tucson Ballot

The Myths and Legends of Tucson

Since the dawn of time, men and women have concocted myths and legends to help make sense of that which defies explanation. Throughout history, the Big Questions have nagged at us. Where does lightning come from? What makes the rivers run? Why are tacos so darned popular?

The time has come to answer these Big Questions. Well, some of them, anyway. For instance, where is that legendary place to hang out? Which Tucson restaurants have achieved mythical status? And who are the Old Pueblo's Titans of art, literature, commerce, politics, and sports?

There is only one way to determine these things, and that is by your taking the time to fill out and send in this year's Best of Tucson ballot. It's new, it's updated, and it's screaming for your attention. Let us know so we can let the world know.

It's our fifteenth year of Best of Tucson. We tried our hardest to come up with a cool tie-in with the number 15, but all we could think of was that there were 15 people in The Last Supper scene in Mel Brooks' "History of the World, Part I" and that 15 is the average IQ of people who talk on the phone while driving. Not good enough, by golly!

But then, this Myths and Legends thing hit like a ton of bricks and we knew we had found our way. Now it's your turn. Fill us in. Let us know. Hook us up. And along the way, a select few of you will achieve legendary status in your own time by winning your very own Best of Tucson T-shirt just for helping us with your poll.

Your votes and comments will become the stuff of legend when the Tucson Weekly's Best of Tucson issue hits the stands September 27. See how your selections stack up with those of the TW staff, some of whom spend all year trying to find out just which is Tucson's best late-night fast food place.

Please check out the Reader's Poll Rules and then act quickly. Be a part of this epic issue before it fades into the mists of time like Brigadoon. Or is that Lorna Doone? Or Lara Croft? Or is that Sid and Marty Kroft? Or is that El Cid? Or is it El Charro? And will El Charro be our Legendary Mexican Restaurant this year? It's in your hands, Dear Readers. Now do something with it!

Act now! Deadline to receive ballots is May 24.

READERS' POLL RULES

  1. Only one ballot per person, please. The ballot must have at least 25 categories completed.

  2. All submissions (comments, etc.) must include writer's name, address and phone number for verification.

  3. And while we appreciate your enthusiasm, please don't try to stuff the ballot box. We know all the tricks; heck, we probably invented half of them.

A LEGEND IN THE MAKING!

Use the box below to nominate your own pick as to who or what makes Tucson such an unbelievable place to live. Be creative! Make up your own category and select your own winners. Heck, we don't know all the answers, but you sure do! Is the old Shamrock building on Ruthrauff a Legend-dairy? Is UA softball pitcher Jennie Finch really Myth Tucson? Can these puns get any worse?

If we print your selection in our big BOT issue, you'll receive one of our killer Best of Tucson shirts, which would make you the hit of the party at the next Summer Solstice gig at Stonehenge. Please include your name, address, phone number and a picture of your girlfriend for notification purposes only. We're just kidding there; we don't really need your address.

Send as many Readers' Comments entries as you like via email to bot@tucsonweekly.com.
