OUTDOORS Events This Week 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLINICS. Arizona State Parks hosts a series of clinics throughout the state as part of its campaign to raise awareness for responsible off-highway vehicle use. Clinics take place several Saturdays a month through February, 2003 including Tucson, Safford and Lake Havasu areas. The cost per clinic is $25. Preregistration is required at (480) 556-0999. DAY TO NIGHT HIKES. Two days before the full moon, hike a relatively flat, three hour, 2.5 mile trail up a desert wash during the transition from day to night. Arrive in time to take in the view of the sunset. Descent is under moonlight. Hikes begin between 4:15 and 5:45 p.m. once a month through April 14. Call 733-5158 for exact dates. MOONRISE OVER THE MOUNTAINS. Patio talk on the night of the full moon includes a relaxing view of the moon as it rises over the campfire above the cactus forest. Discussion of the desert and its seasons of rainfall, plus a tour of the grounds and nature walks takes place on Saturday, December 7 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Free but call for reservations. SUNSET HIKE. Four days before the full moon, hike a moderate trail and climb 700 feet. Arrive in time to take in the view of the sunset. Descent is under moonlight. Walk in the Park tours, overviews of the park's 48 acres and its flora and fauna, are offered at 9 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and at 1 p.m. Sundays. Art in the Park tours, docent-guided looks at gallery exhibits, are at 9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays. Birds of Tohono Chul provides opportunities to observe the many species frequenting the park, and meets at 8 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Grounds are open from 7 a.m. to sunset daily. Exhibit hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Greenhouse hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
