Best Wilderness CampgroundMadera CanyonI-19 south to Continental Road exit, 13 miles eastREADERS' PICK: Up, up and away! If the Eagles hadn't squandered time standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, they could have spent it here in the company of a zillion other birds. This is a lofty plateau (5,000 feet) rising from surrounding flatland that offers running water, trees, a view of the Santa Rita Mountains and Nirvana for bird lovers--240 bird species and over a dozen species of hummingbirds. The Nogales Ranger District maintains the 13-unit campground at Bog Springs (fee required, 14-day limit). As a courtesy to whomever follows you, pack supplies in and pack empties out. Leave it the way you found it. |
