ART AUCTION FOR YOUTH ARCHAEOLOGY. Mountain Oyster Club. 283 N. Stone Ave. Old Pueblo Archaeology Center hosts its gala auction on Saturday, January 26 featuring donations from Southwestern artists. A reception and silent acution begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner and the live auction start at 7. $60 per person covers the entire evening. For reservations call 622-8957.

CHESS KNIGHTS. Borders Books at Park Place. Broadway Blvd. Board and chess pieces are provided for weekly game playing. All skill levels are welcome every Monday at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

This annual symposium, sponsored by the UA's Art History Graduate Student Association, features Babarunde Lawal discussing art and ritual in Africa on Friday, January 25 from 8:15 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. Student speakers from the UA and elsewhere join in the free event. HISTORIC TUCSON WALKING TOURS. Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont House. 151 South Granada Street. 622-0956. Walk in the footsteps of the pioneers as experienced guides dressed in Territorial costume lead you to more than 20 historic homes and sites through downtown Tucson. Tours take place every Saturday through March 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 for adults and free for children under 12. Call 622-0956 for required reservations.

READY, SET, D'ART. Tucson Museum of Art. 140 N. Main Ave. 624-2333. This annual fundraiser offers patrons and artists a chance to meet and participate in festivities on Saturday, January 26 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. More than 150 artists have donated work for the 300 ticket-holders to select and purchase. Tickets cost $325, which includes a buffet, wine bar and work of art. For details, call 229-0276.

SECURITY, CUSTODY AND CONTROL. Center for Creative Photography. Speedway Boulevard and Olive Avenue. 621-7968. A panel discussion explores the experiences of recruits at the Arizona Department of Corrections training academy and follows a film screening by director Michael Mulcahy. Panelists include a former inmate, a prison psychologist and a corrections worker plus the filmmaker on Tuesday, January 29 at 5:30 p.m. The event is held in conjunction with the current exhibit, Prison Terms. SENIOR OLYMPIC FESTIVAL. Drachman Stadium. Plumer & 15th St. The annual event is sponsored by Tucson Parks and Recreation and includes 100 competitive and non-competitive matches in more than 30 sports/activities for seniors 50 and older. STOP EXECUTING ARIZONA'S CHILDREN CONCERT. Reid Park. Broadway-Alvernon.
