Events This Week

FOLKLORE, MYTHS AND LEGENDS. Sabino Canyon. Sabino Canyon Road. 749-8700. Enjoy a naturalist-led hike July 21 at 8 a.m. This moderate, one-hour hike proves that some desert myths are rooted in fact, while other tall-tales pale in comparison to the often bizarre truth. Meet at the Visitors Center courtyard and bring plenty of water, sunblock, a hat, notepad, pencil, camera and walking stick. The hike is free. Admission to the canyon is $5 per car per day or $20 for a year-round pass.

NIGHT WALKS. Saguaro National Park East. 3693 S. Old Spanish Trail. 733-5153. Take a walk on the wild side with a naturalist-guided excursion into the Sonoran Desert one Friday each month from 7 to 9 p.m. Naturalists discuss and demonstrate nighttime adaptations and scan the skies with an audible bat detector. The free program is open to all, and reservations are required. Call 733-5153 to reserve a space.

SIERRA CLUB HIKES. Sonoran Desert. Explore the beauty of the Sonoran desert with the local chapter of the Sierra Club during free hikes and outings on most weekends. Both beginning and experienced hikers are welcome. Non-members are welcome to participate. For a listing of upcoming events, visit www.sierraclub.org/chapters/az/chap_outings.asp.
