The Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce holds its semiannual showcase July 19 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The networking and marketing event, which is open to the public, includes a reception with hors d'oeuvres. DRUMMING CIRCLE. Unitarian Universalist Church. 4831 E. 22nd St. 885-5179. A community drumming circle takes place July 20 at 7 p.m. Participants are urged to bring drums, rattles, bells, sticks or any other fascinating instrument. Drummers of all ages beat together on the third Friday of every month. Admission is free and all are welcome.
ETHNOBOTANY WORKSHOP. Tucson Botanical Gardens. 2150 N. Alvernon Way. 326-9686, ext. 23. Ingrid Fingal dyes wool and cotton samples using traditional Southwest dye plants and environmentally friendly procedures. Fingal discusses the history of natural dying, sources for dyes and equipment, and inspiration for creating finished products with naturally dyed fibers. Wear old clothes (staining is possible) and bring rubber gloves. Cost of the workshop is $20 for garden members and $25 for nonmembers.
MAD SCIENCE SHOW. Bookman's Used Books. 1930 E. Grant Road. 325-0241. The wacky guys from Mad Science perform an educational, exciting and fun show for the whole family July 19 from 11 a.m. to noon. It's free for kids and their parents.
SIMON ORTIZ. Historic YWCA. 738 N. Fifth Ave. Poet and author Ortiz presents a free reading July 21 at 7 p.m. Ortiz is the author of numerous books, including Going for the Rain and Sand Creek. Other artists performing include Joan De Marcos, Leslie Marmon Silko, Maria Elena Wakamatsu and David Mitchell.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Outback Steakhouse host a luncheon to raise money for the Light the Night Walk to be held in September.
