CONTRA AND SQUARE DANCE. YMCA Downtown. 60 W. Alameda Ave. 293-3783. Dance to local callers and a live string band July 21 from 8 to 11 p.m. Bring a friend or come alone and dance with different partners all night long at this non-drinking, non-smoking event. Admission is $6 for Tucson Friends of Traditional Music members and $7 for nonmembers. First-time dancers receive a free ticket to the next dance. Call for more information.

AUDITION NOTICE. Danswest Dance Productions. 7333 E. Rosewood Street. 721-9477. Auditions are being held July 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and August 18 at noon for boys ages 10 to 16. Gymnasts, athletes and any boy with an aptitude for performing are encouraged to attend. There is a $2,700 one-year scholarship. Call to register before the audition.

FLAMENCO Y MAS. Beginning and intermediate flamenco classes take place Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dance Moves Studio, 2514 E. Sixth St. Classes cost $7.50 an hour. The first hour focuses on upper-body work and the second hour is dedicated to footwork. A Floor Barre class is offered Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. through August 9. The intermediate level class teaches dancers to use their weight in the fall-release technique fundamental to the Limon style. Cost is $8 per class.
