BEETLES AND SPIDERS AND FLIES, OH MY!. Bookman's Used Books. 1930 E. Grant Road. 325-0241. Kim Morrison, an educational specialist from the Sonoran Arthropod Studies Institute, brings some six-legged friends to the store June 28 from 11 a.m. to noon. Admission is free.

CLUB KIDZ. Tucson Mall. 4500 N. Oracle Road. 293-7330. Club Kidz invites children and their parents to play at the mall the first and third Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. for a half-hour learning series that is fun and educational.

JULY FOURTH STORIES. Barnes and Noble at the Foothills Mall. 7325 N. La Cholla Blvd. 742-6402. Wear red, white and blue and celebrate Independence Day with stories about our high flying flag and fireworks June 30 at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

BICAS BUILD-A-BIKE PROGRAM. Bicas. 44 W. Sixth St. 628-7950. BICAS offers the build-a-bike program for all. Take part in the eight-session course and fix up old bikes for the community. Classes are ongoing. Cost ranges from $15 to $60. Call 628-7950 for information.

CREATURES OF THE NIGHT. Tucson Botanical Gardens. 2150 N. Alvernon Way. 326-9686, ext. 10. This five-day morning camp explores bats and their importance as pollinators for Sonoran Desert plants. A trip to a bat habitat at Kartchner Caverns is planned for the last day of camp, July 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Camp runs July 23-26 from 8 a.m. to noon and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Cost of the camp is $90 for garden members and $95 for non-members. Call for information and to register.

KIDS AND PLANTS SUMMER CAMP. Pima County Cooperative Extension. 4210 N. Campbell Ave. 626-5161. Kids learn to plant a garden plot, make a terrarium, root plants from cuttings and create a garden scarecrow. Classes are presented by UA specialists and local experts and include soils and nutrients, plant parts, worms and composting, cacti, bats and insects. Two one-week sessions for grades 4 through 8 take place July 16-20 and July 23-27, Mondays through Fridays at 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Cost of the sessions is $30 per week. Deadline for registration is July 6.

PLANT SCIENCE CAMP. Tucson Botanical Gardens. 2150 N. Alvernon Way. 326-9686, ext. 10. This four-week program in basic botany and plant science for middle schoolers includes gardening, horticulture and landscape design. Students get hands-on experience in gardens, greenhouses and the classroom. There are also field trips and guest speakers. There is no fee for this course, which includes a stipend for students who attend July 9-August 3 from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

SEEK SUMMER CAMPS. These camps for kids, which offer opportunities for adventure and discovery, include a camp for grades K-8, science camp for grades K-5, fine arts and writing camps for grades K-5 and computer camp for grades 4-8. SUMMER STORYTIME. Enjoy special summer storytimes each Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Sabino Canyon Visitor's Center. Children 3-8, accompanied by an adult, learn about local desert-related themes. The regular fee for Sabino Canyon ($5 for a day pass or $20 for an annual pass) is waived for storytime.

TAI CHI, YOGA, KARATE AND MORE. Providence Institute. 1126 N. Jones Blvd. 400-2360. Fun and challenging classes that promote health and well-being are offered by Sensei Jim for children ages 5 to 11. Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Phenomenal Kids Club. Cost of the classes is $50 per month (second child is $30 per month). Call for more information.

TOUR FOR TUCSON'S CHILDREN. Registration forms are now available for the Jack Furrier's Western Tire & Auto Care Tour for Tucson's Children. The biking and skating event, scheduled for July 4, includes a 27-mile challenge ride, a 6.5- and 10-mile in-line skate and a 10-mile family ride and .5-mile free kids' ride. Entry fees are $20 for adults and $15 for kids. Call 791-4870 for more information on mail-in and in-person registration. Application brochures are available at all Parks and Recreation district offices, neighborhood recreation centers and most bicycle and skate shops, and at ci.tucson.az.us.

TUCSON-PIMA PUBLIC LIBRARY STORYTIMES. Storytime teaches children an appreciation for reading, and events are tailored to specific age groups including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, school-agers and family. Admission is free. Call 791-4391 for age-specific times.

WESTERN DAY CAMP/VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL. The Salvation Army Temple Corps Community Center and Church hosts a camp/school for children K-8 July 9-20 (except Wednesdays) from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 1001 N. Richey Blvd. The program includes games, crafts, Bible lessons, singing, swimming, field trips (Colossal Cave, Breakers Water Park, Mystery Trip) and more. Lunch and snacks are provided daily. Cost of the camp/school is $25 for all eight days and covers all costs for transportation, meals, crafts and trips. Space is limited to 25 children.
