NIGHT WALKS. Saguaro National Park East. 3693 S. Old Spanish Trail. 733-5153. Take a walk on the wild side with a naturalist-guided excursion into the Sonoran Desert twice a month on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. Naturalists discuss and demonstrate nighttime adaptations and scan the skies with an audible bat detector. The free program is open to all, and reservations are required. Call 733-5153 to reserve a space.

SABINO STARRY NIGHT. Sabino Canyon Visitors Center. Sabino Canyon Road. Hike every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Glide through the night in Sabino Canyon, free from flash and artificial light, while enjoying the friendly company of kindred spirits. Reconnect with nature by disconnecting from any extraneous electronic devices and fomenting moments of silence, to experience the genuine light, sound and presence of the darkened Catalina Cathedral. It's a 7.5-mile round trip, 600-foot elevation change. Sponsored by the Sierra Club, admission is free. Call Larry at 577-2444 after 1 p.m. for information.

SIERRA CLUB CONSERVATION MEETING. Historic YWCA. 738 N. Fifth Ave. 620-6401. A presentation of the video Border Visions, which documents the environmental consequences of the border economic boom, takes place May 31 at 7 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome.

SIERRA CLUB HIKES. Sonoran Desert. Explore the beauty of the Sonoran desert with the local chapter of the Sierra Club during free hikes and outings on most weekends. Out of Town

CIRCLE Z RANCH CREEK HIKE. Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve. 622-6381, ext. 3463. Hike Sonoita Creek from the preserve boundary through the beautiful Circle Z Guest Ranch to the State Park boundary May 26 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hikers may see the nesting rose-throated becard and other riparian specialty birds. There are frequent stream crossings, so bring knee-boots or dry shoes for after the hike. Meet at Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve at 8 a.m. Cost of the hike is $20 per person.
