ANIMAL FRIENDS/MOTHER'S DAY. Barnes & Noble at Foothills Mall. 7325 N. La Cholla Blvd. 742-6402. Come listen to the story of Suzy's Zoo and meet imaginary animal friends April 28 at 11 a.m. Bring your mom and celebrate Mother's Day with a story and craft project May 5 at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

BICAS. 44 W. Sixth St. Build a bike and improve your Spanish speaking skills at the same time. Spanish bike repair classes are scheduled 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Call 628-7950 for more details. BICAS also offers the build-a-bike program for all. Take part in the eight-session course and fix up old bikes for the community. Classes are ongoing. Cost ranges from $15 to $60.

CLUB KIDZ. Tucson Mall. 4500 N. Oracle Road. 293-7330. Club Kidz invites children and their parents to play at the mall the first and third Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. for a half-hour long learning series that is fun and educational.

DIA DE LOS NIÑOS Y LIBROS. Main Library. 101 N. Stone Ave. 791-4391. A celebration of children, books and reading takes place April 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. and includes a puppet show, bilingual storytelling, face painting and craft making. There are also a jumping castle and music. Admission is free.

KIDS' POETRY CONTEST. In celebration of National Poetry Month, Barnes & Noble at Foothills Mall is hosting two poetry events. Children ages 6 to 14 may submit up to three poems of any length. Prizes are awarded in each of several age groups and recipients are invited to read their poetry at Open Mic Poetry Night May 17. Submit poems by April 30 in person or to Poetry Contest, Barnes & Noble, 7325 N. La Cholla Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85741. Call 742-6621 for more information. In addition, adults may participate in a name-the-poem contest. Contest forms are available at the store. Entry deadline is April 30.

NEW KIVA MOTIONS PUPPET THEATRE. Red Barn Theatre. 948 N. Main Ave. 887-5144. The theater presents The Little Red Hen and Other Stories. Performances take place every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. through May. Stories include Indian and Hindi folktales and some surprises. After the show, kids get up close and personal with the puppets. In addition, the audience gets a chance to make a puppet to take home. Tickets are $3 per person, $5 for two children, and $2 per person with AHCCCS card or low-income bus pass.

PUPPET CHURCH. Tucson Puppet Works. 111 E. Congress St. For inspirational and spiritual tales from around the globe, come see the light every Sunday at 3 p.m. Admission is $2, $3 for adults. Call 770-1533 for information.

SUMMER FINE ARTS PROGRAM. Tucson Girls Chorus Music Center. 4020 E. River Road. The Tucson Girls Chorus' summer fine arts program begins June 4. This year's curriculum includes puppetry, chorus, Irish step dancing, natural paints, storytelling, musical theater and a class that creates an original opera. Parents' Corner

CHILDREN TO CHILDREN. 3922 N. Mountain Ave. Children to Children is a grief support center for children and families who have experienced the death of someone they love. They provide support services in a caring environment and currently have space available in their groups. They are also looking for volunteers to become support group facilitators. PARENTING SUPPORT. The Give A Parent Support group (G.A.P.S.) needs mentors to make home visits to first-time moms. Participants should be experienced, loving parents with the ability to donate one to two hours per week. Training and ongoing support for volunteers are provided. PARENTS WITHOUT PARTNERS. 2447 N. Los Altos Blvd. There is a dance April 28 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Enjoy a wide variety of music and snacks. All are welcome--singles, couples, married couples, etc. Call 622-8120 for more information. Parents Without Partners, Inc., is an international, nonprofit organization dedicated to the entire single-parent family. It offers Saturday night dances, camp-outs, picnics, skating, meetings, potlucks, games, house parties, movies, hikes, volunteer and community service opportunities, and much more.
