CONTRA AND SQUARE DANCE. YMCA Downtown. 60 W. Alameda Road. The Tucson Friends of Traditional Music present a contra and square dance with local callers and a live string band April 7 from 8 to 11 p.m. Bring a friend or come alone and dance with different partners all evening. Newcomers are always welcome. Admission is $6 for TFTM members and $7 for non-members. First-time dancers receive a free ticket to the next dance. Call 293-3783 for more information.

Carlo Gozzi's Asian fairy tale of a king's long search for a wife draws on theater forms across time and culture--from Japanese bunraku to Indonesian shadow puppetry to Balinese temple dance. There is one performance only April 6 at 8 p.m.

ORTS THEATRE OF DANCE. 121 E. Seventh St. Performances of The Nine Sins, which is loosely based on Murder at the Villa, a painting by Bradley W. Pattison, run April 5 at 8 p.m. and April 6 at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Sins to be covered include pride, avarice, anger, gluttony, unchastity, envy, vainglory, gloominess and languid indifference. This show deals with adult themes and is not recommended for children. Tickets cost $10 and are available at Bentley's, Antigone Books and Silverbell Trading or by calling 624-3799.

PREMIUM BLEND. UA Crowder Hall. Southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard. A dance concert featuring works choreographed by the UA faculty and performed by the UA Dance Ensemble takes place April 6-7 at 2 and 8 p.m. Premium Blend features Bas Relief, which has snake goddesses, bull vaulters and priestesses; and Twisted Tango, a dance with a comical spin and more. Tickets are $8 and $10 and are available at the UA box office or by calling 621-1162.

Move It Dance Company presents The Women's Initiative for Youth and Elders, a multicultural, intergenerational dance project that seeks to guide women through critical passages in their lives.
