ACADEMY OF ST. MARTIN IN THE FIELDS. Centennial Hall. University of Arizona. 621-3341. The premier chamber orchestra, renowned for its energetic playing and supreme standard of musicianship, presents two symphonic works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart along with Igor Stravinsky's score for George Balanchine's ballet Apollon Musgète and the Sinfonia Concertante in D major by Carl Stamitz March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range in price from $48 to $60. A free "Arts Encounter" is held 45 minutes before the performance in Room 102 of the Center for English as a Second Language, 1100 E. North Campus Drive.

ARIZPE STRING QUARTET. St. Philip's in the Hills Church. 4440 N. Campbell Ave. 299-6421, ext. 32. The quartet performs March 15 at 12:15 p.m. Admission is free.

COMMUNITY SING-ALONG. St. Mark's Presbyterian Church. 3809 E. Third St. 323-8697. Join local folk music enthusiast Ted Warmbrand and friends for an evening of topical tunes and sing-along songs March 18 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $1 to $4, which benefits ItzAbouTime.

DAVID NELSON BAND. Nimbus Brewery. 3850 E. 44 St. Nelson, widely acknowledged as one of the country's top contemporary flatpickers, performs March 17 at 9:30 p.m. Also performing are Major Lingo and other bands. Tickets cost $10 at the door.

DESERT BLUEGRASS ASSOCIATION. KickStart Grill. 8987 E. Tanque Verde Road. Bring an instrument and join in the jam or just sit back and enjoy the music March 17 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free. All are welcome. Enjoy another jam session March 21 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Builders Lodge #60 F.&A.M. 450 N. Pantano Road.

DESERT VOICES. Berger Performing Arts Center. 791-9662. Heart and Soul is a celebration of America's rich history of R&B music. The chorus will perform the music of Tina Turner, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Boys II Men, among others, March 17-18. Tickets cost $10 and $12 in advance and $15 at the door and are available at Antigone Books, Tucson Trunk and Rainbow Planet Coffeehouse.

DRUMMING CIRCLE. Unitarian Universalist Church. 4831 E. 22nd St. Drummers of all ages beat together on the third Friday of each month. The drumming circle takes place outdoors, weather permitting. Participants are urged to bring drums, rattles, bells, sticks and other instruments. The next free community drumming takes place March 16 at 7 p.m.

EL PUEBLO JAM. El Pueblo Neighborhood Center. 101 W. Irvington Road. 622-6973. All instruments, all ages, all kinds of music! All are welcome every Friday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The next jam is March 9.

FACULTY ARTIST SERIES. UA Crowder Hall. Southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard. The Arizona Bach Aria Consort performs March 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range in price from $4 to $10.

FLUTE RECITAL. UA Music building, Room 146. Lisa Van Winkle presents a doctoral lecture recital March 18 at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

IRISH MUSIC AND DANCE FESTIVAL. UA Crowder Hall. Southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard. Mick Moloney sings and plays tenor banjo and mandolin March 15 at 7:30 p.m. Tenor and guitarist Robbie O'Connell, fiddler Marie Reilly, accordion player Martin Reilly and piper Todd Denman join Mick for a spirited night of music. IRISH SING-ALONG. McHugh's Good Times. 3218 N. Oracle Road. 293-9883. If you've got a bit o' the Irish in you, then you'll enjoy this evening of song with renowned Irish tenor Jack Roach from the Blarney Stone Resort in Shamrock, Texas, March 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. Enjoy a potluck dinner (bring a favorite entrée or pay $4.75 per plate), a drink and a few encores.

MICK MOLONEY'S IRISH MUSIC &DANCE FESTIVAL. UA Crowder Hall. One of America's top Irish entertainers plays tenor banjo, mandolin and sings with guests Marie Reilly, Martin Reilly, Todd Denman, Robbie O'Connell and two champion Irish step-dancers this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the UA's Crowder Hall. MUSIC FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART. UA Crowder Hall. Southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard. High school choirs from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, St. Gregory College Preparatory and Sabino perform individually and then share the stage in works for large chorus March 18 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $3 and $5.

MY LORD CHAMBERLAIN'S CONSORT. St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church. 4440 N. Campbell Ave. 889-4310. This ensemble, presented by the Arizona Early Music Society, performs John Dowland's First Book of Songs March 18 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $21 general, $12 for seniors, $5 for students.

NEWGRASS BLUEGRASS. Nimbus Brewery. 3850 E. 44 St. The Larry Keel Experience, an acoustic newgrass/progressive bluegrass ensemble from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, performs March 18 from 3 to 9 p.m. Degrees Plato and Greg Morton and the Def Jeffers also perform. SAM BUSH BAND. Temple of Music and Art. 330 S. UA SYMPHONIC CHOIR. Our Savior's Lutheran Church. 1949 E. Helen St. 621-2998. The 58-voice UA Symphonic Choir performs music spanning the 16th through 20th centuries March 20 at 7:30 p.m. The program includes a variety of motets, anthems and part songs by Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Poulenc and others. WILLIAM PREUCIL, ERIC KIM, TUCSON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. TCC Music Hall. 260 S. Church Ave. Preucil and Kim are featured in Brahms' Concerto for Violin and Cello; also on the program, conducted by George Hanson, are Michael Torke's Jasper and Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique.
