ANONYMOUS 4/CHILINGIRIAN STRING QUARTET. Crowder Hall. University of Arizona. 621-3341. Sponsored by UApresents. Hailed for their vocal blend and technical virtuosity, the women of Anonymous 4 interweave music with poetry and narrative in a tribute to Medieval chant and polyphony. The group is joined by members of the Chilingirian String Quartet March 1 at 7:30 p.m. and March 2 at 8 p.m. Together they showcase three works, including 1000: A Mass for the End of Time, an Ascension Mass with chant and polyphony from French and British sources; Benjamin Britten's liturgical masterpiece Missa Brevis; and John Tavener's The Bridegroom. Tickets cost $35.

ARIZONA SYMPHONIC WINDS. Catalina Foothills High School. 4300 E. Sunrise Drive. George Hanson conducts the ensemble March 4 at 3 p.m. in Past Meets the Present. Featured pieces include Russian Christmas music, Bartok's Hungarian Sketches and a concerto showcasing clarinetist László Veres. Admission is a $5 donation at the door.

BELL ENSEMBLE. Catalina United Methodist Church. 2700 E. Speedway Blvd. 797-3124. A variety of Southern Arizona bell ensembles join forces for a mass ringing March 3 at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.

DESERT BLUEGRASS ASSOCIATION. Sabino Canyon Visitors Center. North Sabino Canyon Drive. Bring an instrument and join in the jam or just sit back and enjoy the music March 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Do it again March 7 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Rincon Market, 2513 E. Sixth St. Admission is free. DRUMMING CIRCLE. Unitarian Universalist Church. 4831 E. 22nd St. Drummers of all ages beat together on the third Friday of each month. The drumming circle takes place outdoors, weather permitting. Participants are urged to bring drums, rattles, bells, sticks and other instruments. The next free community drumming takes place March 16 at 7 p.m.

The Zeitgeist Emerging Voices Series presents The Friends of Shooby Taylor, which features guitarist Matt Mitchell, saxophonist Jeremy Patfield, bassist Ed Friedland and drummer Aaron Bonsall, March 5 at 8 p.m. The quartet stretches the established forms in this tribute to the madman of scat, Shooby Taylor. Tickets are $5 at the door.

FACULTY ARTISTS SERIES. UA Crowder Hall. Hong-Mei Xiao, viola, and Rex Woods, piano, present great viola and piano works including Glinka's Viola Sonata in D minor and Daniel Asia's Orange for solo viola March 3 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 through the UA fine arts box office at 621-1162.

JAMEY AERBERSOLD. UA Crowder Hall. AZ Jazz I presents internationally known saxophonist Aerbersold March 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.

JAZZ WEEK. UA Crowder Hall. The UA school of music and dance presents Quite a Day o' Dixie featuring the Olive Street Stompers, Borderline 7 Dixieland Jazz Band and Jazzberry Jam March 4 at 3 p.m. Tickets range in price from $4 to $8 and are available through the UA fine arts box office at 621-1162.

JUST FOR KIDS. Tucson Symphony Center. 2175 N. Sixth Ave. Members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra explore various regions and music from around the country with The Music of America March 3 at 10 and 11:15 a.m. Suggested donation is $1.

Songwriter, poet, pianist and actress Manchester, known for such hits as Don't Cry Out Loud and Through the Eyes of Love, performs for the Hillel Foundation's annual fundraiser March 4. R. CARLOS NAKAI QUARTET. PCC West Campus Center for the Arts. 2202 W. Anklam Road. 206-6988. The quartet, which features R. Carlos Nakai, Mary Redhouse, AmoChip Dabney and Will Clipman, performs original works from its third release, Ancient Future. The group weaves together 100 years of collective musical experience and 1,000 years of cultural influence March 3 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $12 and $15 at the box office and at the door.

RUSSIAN DRAGON BAND. Mat Bevel Institute. 530 N. Stone Ave. Zeitgeist Jazz at the Institute presents the Russian Dragon Band March 3 at 8 p.m. The Denver-based group, led by pianist Art Lande, is joined by guests Shane Endsley, trumpet and Mark Miller, woodwinds. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

TUCSON WINTER CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL. TCC Leo Rich Theatre. 260 S. Church Ave. 577-3769. Presented by the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music March 4-11, the five-concert festival features music of Russian composers Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Borodin, Glinka, Glazunov, Moszkowski and Taneyev performed by cellist Peter Rejto and 16 other musicians, including the Grammy-nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet and oboist Allan Vogel. Tickets to individual concerts cost $15 general, $5 for students with ID.

VIVA ARIZONA. TCC Music Hall. 260 S. Church Ave. Viva Arizona is a musical and cultural extravaganza that journey into the world of Latin music to visit personalities and events instrumental in bringing Latino rhythms into mainstream America. Musical guests include the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Latino Solido, Mariachi Tierra del Sol, Trio Los Hermanos Perez and the Viva Arizona Dancers March 2 at 7 p.m. and March 3 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $17 at the box office and Ticketmaster outlets.

BUDAPEST TOURS. The UA music advisory board is sponsoring a tour to Budapest March 20-26. Music lovers will visit the city and the surrounding Hungarian countryside and enjoy a variety of musical experiences including symphony concerts and an opera performance. An English-speaking guide will lead sightseeing tours of the buildings of Pest and the ancient heart of the historic town of Buda as well as visits to the Godollo Royal Retreat and the Danube bend and picturesque towns of Szentendre and Visegard. OPEN MIC ROUND-UP. Bookman's Used Books. 1930 E. Grant Road. 325-0241. Aspiring performing songwriters and musicians of all levels of ability are invited to showcase their acoustic musical talent each Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Performance times are 15 minutes per person. On the last Tuesday of each month musicians may compete for the top honor of the evening. The winning musician is invited to participate in the Bookman's Open Mic Roundup for a cash prize of $250.
