ANNE CARSON. UA Modern Languages auditorium, on the north side of the mall west of Cherry Avenue. Classics scholar and poet Anne Carson presents her work February 21 at 8 p.m. Among her recent publications are Men in the Off Hours and The Beauty of the Husband. Admission is free. There is an informal discussion and question/answer session with Carson February 22 at 11 a.m. in Room 303 of the Swede Johnson building, 111 N. Cherry Ave.

BOOK SALE. Friends Book Barn. 2230 N. Country Club Road. 795-3763. More than 250,000 books are on sale at bargain prices during the Friends of the Tucson-Pima Public Libraries book sale, which ends February 18. There are thousands of books to choose from and most are priced under $5. The book sale benefits all Tucson-Pima libraries. Book sale hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (closed Wednesdays) and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
