ARIZONA GALLERY. UA Student Union. Shemear features the paintings of Karen Domnitch Felton. For Domnitch Felton, "shemear" is the act of pushing and pulling paint across the canvas and allowing the colors and forms to work together in multitudes of playful layering. The exhibit opens February 17 and continues through March 18. There is a reception for the artist February 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

AUSI GALLERY. 6060 N. Oracle Road. 797-2275. Reflections and New Visions is a one-man show featuring contemporary glasswork by Richard R. Hornby, whose pieces reflect his love of dense, rich, vibrant color and capture the palette of the Southern Arizona desert. COLOR OF BONE. The Bad Girl Storytelling Brigade opens a five week exhibit on Friday, February 16, 5 p.m. at the T/PAC Community Gallery, 240 N. Stone. The show includes art by Cantrell Maryott Driver, Katie Cooper, Mitzi Cowell, To-Reé-Neé Wolf Keiser, Karen Falkenstrom. ROTUNDA GALLERY. UA Student Union. Since You're Gone, which opens February 17 and continues through March 18, features works by S. J. Gibson. Gibson employs lithography, photocopy transfers, mono printing, cyanotype and traditional and solar plate etching to scrutinize the dimensions of self. Continuing through February 24: Desert Soul features new works in clay by Thomas Kerrigan, who applies sophisticated textures and glazes to his earthenware forms. Also on display are small figurative works by Hirotsune Tashima. The gallery's annual jewelry exhibition features three nationally known artists: Michael Boyd exhibits bracelets, rings, neckpieces and earrings fashioned from semiprecious stones that he cuts himself; Andrew Cooperman is renowned for his interpretations in metal, stones and found materials of natural forms; and Gina Pankowski fashions jewelry from intricately fabricated links of different shapes in silver and gold. ARIZONA BIENNIAL. Arizona's only juried biennial exhibition will be held at the Tucson Museum of Art June 8 through August 5. Arizona Biennial 2001 is open to all artists residing in Arizona, working in all media. The prospectus for the competition is available at the museum at 140 N. ARTIST ROSTER WORKSHOP. The workshop focuses on application preparation and enrollment for the Southern Arizona Artist Roster. Once selected, the artist's data is placed on T/PAC's website. The Fourth Avenue Merchants Association is requesting a gateway feature at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street. The deadline for proposals is February 22.

Prescott College is seeking artists with two-dimensional work to participate in the Prescott Billboard Project, which is a progressive visual dialogue about how society defines itself. Arizona Commission on the Arts professional development grants are available throughout the year to help Arizona artists and representatives of small and mid-sized Arizona arts organizations attend out-of-state conferences, workshops, seminars and retreats that contribute to their professional growth. University Blvd. Native Seeds Search is conducting the workshop Paper From Scratch: From Pant Fiber to Sheet February 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn the 1,400-year-old Japanese hand-beating method of making paper from a variety of plant materials with paper artist Catherine Nash. Cost of the class is $75 for lecture and one workshop or $125 for lecture and both workshops. ROUTE 66/ALBUQUERQUE. New Mexico Arts and the City of Albuquerque Public Art Program are seeking artists for an upcoming joint project for Cultural Corridors: Public Art on Scenic Highways/Albuquerque East Gateway. The roadside commission commemorates historic Route 66 and Albuquerque, "Gateway to the Desert Southwest." Project amount is $100,000 and is open to artists nationwide. SEATLLE COURTHOUSE COMMISSION. The King County Public Art Program seeks artists for the historic King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle. Artwork opportunities are part of a major rehabilitation project planned for interior areas of the courthouse. Two projects are available: entrance artwork (an interior wall area flanking either side of a central staircase) and floor design (artist-designed floor treatment).
