The exhibit continues through February 24. A special exhibition in the Members' Gallery features guest artist Chen Hongshu and Dinnerware member artists. East Meets West is a cross-cultural exhibition of Eastern and Western approaches to the same subject matter. A Chinese painting workshop conducted by Chen Hongshu takes place February 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. The workshop costs $20, including materials. Pre-registration is required. Continuing through February 24: Desert Soul features new works in clay by Thomas Kerrigan, who applies sophisticated textures and glazes to his earthenware forms. Also on display are small figurative works by Hirotsune Tashima. The gallery's annual jewelry exhibition features three nationally known artists: Michael Boyd exhibits bracelets, rings, neckpieces and earrings fashioned from semiprecious stones that he cuts himself; Andrew Cooperman is renowned for his interpretations in metal, stones and found materials of natural forms; and Gina Pankowski fashions jewelry from intricately fabricated links of different shapes in silver and gold. Married to Glass showcases the work of nine married couples, including Valerie and Rick Beck, Kate and Billy Bernstein, Kate Vogel and John Littleton and Shari and David Hopper. While some of the couples collaborate to produce pieces, others create work independently. Always, it is the common thread of glass that ties them together. The exhibit continues through April 21. For Domnitch Felton, shemear is the act of pushing and pulling the paint across the canvas and allowing the colors and forms to work together in multitudes of playful layering. ARROWHEAD/SPEAR-MAKING WORKSHOP. Old Pueblo Archaeology Center. 1000 E. Fort Lowell Road. 798-1201. Archaeology technician Allen Denoyer offers a workshop on making and using atlatls (spear-throwers) and spears February 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. Learn how to fashion traditional atlatls and wooden spears using natural Sonoran Desert woods and leather materials. Bring a pocketknife to carve the wood. All other equipment is provided. Cost of the class is $40 per person. Learn to make an arrowhead out of obsidian and other stone like prehistoric Arizonans did February 11 from 9 a.m. to noon. Some prior training or experience in flintknapping techniques using hammerstone and antler for removing flakes from stone cores is needed for this class. Cost is $25 per person.

ARIZONA BIENNIAL. Arizona's only juried biennial exhibition will be held at the Tucson Museum of Art June 8 through August 5. Arizona Biennial 2001 is open to all artists residing in Arizona, working in all media. The prospectus for the competition is available at the museum at 140 N. CALL TO ARTISTS. Dinnerware Contemporary Art Gallery is accepting entries for its Ninth Biennial National Juried Exhibition. CALL TO ARTISTS. The Tucson/Pima Arts Council is seeking an artist or team of artists for a $30,000 commission with the Department of Transportation. The Fourth Avenue Merchants Association is requesting a gateway feature at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street. A pre-submission meeting that discusses project details takes place February 8 at 4 p.m. in Room 101 of the International Arts Center, 516 N. Fifth Ave. The deadline for proposals is February 22.

Prescott College is seeking artists with two-dimensional work to participate in the Prescott Billboard Project, which is a progressive visual dialogue about how society defines itself. The museum is seeking enthusiastic people who enjoy animal biodiversity, conservation and working with the public for its docent program. FILM SUBMISSIONS. The Arizona International Film Festival is looking for new and innovative independent works to be part of the Reel Frontier Film and Video Competition. Film and video submissions are being accepted through February 12 in the categories of narrative and documentary features, documentary shorts, and narrative, experimental and animation shorts. Submissions must be an Arizona premiere and must have been completed between January 2000 and February 2001. Finalists in the Reel Frontier will be screened during the 2001 Arizona International Film Festival scheduled for April 19-29 at the Screening Room. Awards are presented to the best in each category, and "Best of Arizona." Entry fees are $50 for works that are 45 minutes and over and $30 for those under 45 minutes. Entries must be submitted on half-inch VHS for pre-screening. For festival screenings, finalists will be presented in 35mm or 16mm film formats or half-inch, 3/4-inch, Beta-SP and digital video formats. ROUTE 66/ALBUQUERQUE. New Mexico Arts and the City of Albuquerque Public Art Program are seeking artists for an upcoming joint project for Cultural Corridors: Public Art on Scenic Highways/Albuquerque East Gateway. The roadside commission commemorates historic Route 66 and Albuquerque, "Gateway to the Desert Southwest." Project amount is $100,000 and is open to artists nationwide.
