AEROS: THE ROMANIAN GYMNASTICS TEAM. Centennial Hall. University of Arizona. 621-3341. The Romanian Gymnastics Team presents a powerful blend of choreographic art and acrobatic athleticism February 1 at 7:30 p.m. and February 2 at 8 p.m. Tickets range in price from $22 to $34.

A NIGHT TO HOWL. 51 N. Sixth Ave. (across from the Ronstadt Center). 623-5252. An unveiling and dedication of the Spirit of the Wolf mural, which celebrates Arizona's natural heritage through public art, takes place February 3 at 7:30 p.m. A reception that includes dessert and a Mexican gray wolf slide show follows.

ARIZONA HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM. 949 E. Second St. 628-5775. Jane Berson welcomes you to the Cosmopolitan, one of Tucson's leading 19th-century hotels, with an emphasis on period furnishings, February 1 at 1:30 and 3 p.m. in the Kino Gallery. Charles Polzer discusses myths of Jesuit treasure and stories about the struggle between Jesuit missions and Spanish mines in Arizona and Sonora February 7 at 7 and 9 p.m. Admission is free.

ART WALK. The ArtWalk is a free, guided tour that explores downtown galleries and studios and includes talks by artists and small, private receptions. Parking is free, but reservations are recommended. ArtWalk meets Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

BENEFIT SHOW. Tucson Puppet Works. 111 E. Congress St. 770-1533. Join in an evening of live music, puppet shows, performances by Mat Bevel and members of Flam Chen, DJs and much more in a benefit to help offset the expenses of last November's All Soul's Day Parade. There is a donation of $5 at the door and there will be a BICAS bike raffle and a bake sale as well.

FEAST OF THE ARTS. This evening of art includes a private guided tour of the Tucson Museum of Art's current exhibits, cocktails and dinner buffet by Carte Blanche Catering and Musical Landscapes, a concert at the TCC Music Hall with conductor Stefan Klieme February 8 at 5:15 p.m. The Tucson Symphony Orchestra performs Respighi's Fountains of Rome, Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola and Schumann's Symphony No. 3 ("Rhenish"). Cost is $45 per person (all inclusive) or $25 for dinner and transportation only. Call the Tucson Symphony box office at 882-8585 for reservations.

GALA BENEFIT. Mo's Gallery & Fine Framing, Inc. 3650 E. Fort Lowell Road. The Friends of the Arizona Cancer Center's black-tie-optional gala benefit art show and sale takes place February 3 from 7 to 10 p.m. The $100 per person event includes hors d'oeuvres, wine, dessert and champagne. Proceeds, including 30 percent of sales, go directly to the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson. Call 577-0490 for more information.

JEWELRY EXHIBITION. Obsidian Gallery. 4340 N. Campbell Ave. 577-3598. The gallery's annual jewelry exhibition features three nationally known artists: Michael Boyd exhibits bracelets, rings, neckpieces and earrings fashioned from semiprecious stones that he cuts himself; Andrew Cooperman is renowned for his interpretations in metal, stones, and found materials of natural forms; and Gina Pankowski fashions jewelry from intricately fabricated links of different shapes in silver and gold. The exhibit opens with a reception February 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. and continues through March 17. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.

LESBIAN LOOKS FILM AND VIDEO SERIES. Modern Languages Auditorium. University of Arizona. The UA Committee on LGB Studies kicks off this series February 3 at 7:30 p.m. with 10 shorts from the U.S., Canada, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands. Highlights include Hope Thompson's tongue-in-cheek noir thriller Switch and Kim Cummings' Weeki Wachee Girls. Admission is free.

MAGICIAN COMPETITION. Berger Performing Arts Center. Arizona School for the Deaf and the Blind. 1200 W. Speedway Blvd. The International Brotherhood of Magicians-Ring 172 presents the Arizona State Stage Magician of the Year Competition February 2 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. with concessions and close-up magicians Steve Ehlers, Jered Schaugaard, Tim Leahy and Jim Davidson, who all perform prior to the competition. SENIOR OLYMPIC FESTIVAL. This celebration of fitness is held at 29 locations around Tucson and promotes health, fitness and an active lifestyle for seniors ages 50 and over, regardless of ability, experience or age. First-day events include opening ceremonies, activity fair, parade and track and field competition at Drachman Stadium. Closing ceremonies take place February 10 at the Reid Park DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center. Events encompass 30 activities from aerobics to volleyball and seven non-athletic events from cards to chess. For more information call the Senior Olympics office at 791-4865.

SICK & TWISTED ANIMATION FESTIVAL. Loft Cinema. 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation is not for those with an overly refined artistic palate. The festival hosts animated short films that are too rude, crude and lewd for the more prestigious and tasteful Classic Festival of Animation. Short animated films to be screened include The Hangnail, Wheelchair Rebecca, Rejected, Angry Kid and Beat the Brat, among others. The festival continues through February 17. Tickets are $7 at the door or in advance through Ticketmaster at 321-1000.

THE WARRIORS. UA Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering building auditorium. Northeast corner of Speedway Boulevard and Mountain Avenue. There is a screening of The Warriors, a cult classic about a street gang from Coney Island that is trapped in the Bronx when a city-wide truce explodes, February 1 at 7 p.m. Cinematographer Andrew Laszlo, whose career in film and television spans nearly 50 years, introduces and discusses the film prior to the screening. His work includes the original Phil Silvers Show and Shogun. Admission is free.

TUCSON RODEO PARADE EQUIPMENT MUSEUM. Rodeo Grounds at the corner of South Sixth Street and Irvington Road. 294-1280. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through February 16. Admission is free, although donations are accepted.

TUCSON SINGLES CONVENTION. DoubleTree Hotel. 445 S. Alvernon Way. (415) 479-3800. Sponsored by American Singles, keynote speaker Rich Gosse presents Looking for Love in All the RIGHT Places at the Tucson Singles Convention February 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Gosse, the author of eight books on the topic, including You CAN Hurry Love and A Good Man Is EASY to Find, shares his rules for finding love. Admission is $20 at the door. Adults of all ages are welcome. A coat and tie/dressy attire are recommended.

WOMEN AND GERMAN CINEMA. University of Arizona. Modern Languages auditorium. There is a free screening of Bandits, an exciting, fast-paced, rock and roll road movie that features the exploits of an all-female band on the run February 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Out of Town

BIRDS OF THE ARBORETUM. Boyce Thompson Arboretum. 37615 Highway 60, Superior. (520) 689-2723. Listen to expert ornithological advice, view close-up slides and then go out and see the beautiful resident birds and migrant avian visitors February 7, 14, 21 and 28. COWBOY POETRY AND MUSIC. Sierra Vista. Cowboy bards from Arizona and the West gather to honor the American tradition of verse February 2-4. There is also an informal cowboy music jam, headline stage performances and more. Call (602) 493-3534 for times, locations and ticket prices.

TUBAC FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS. Tubac, 45 miles south of Tucson on I-19. (520) 398-2704. The February 3-11 festival features more than 200 artists displaying and selling their works. Local musicians entertain and visitors can sample a variety of international foods. Featured artist Amado Peóa autographs the festival's official posters. Admission is free and parking is $4. A free horse-drawn trolley provides transportation to and from the village.

WINTER NATURE TOURS. Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory. Birds of prey and sandhill cranes are the stars of the winter nature tours hosted by the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory. Half-day tours, which depart from Bisbee's historic district at 9 a.m. and return by 12:30 p.m., continue through February 25. The $30-per-person tours include transportation in a 15-passenger bus. Hawk Stalk tours depart at 8 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. The fee is $55 per person and includes transportation and lunch at a local restaurant. V-DAY. Various locations downtown. This multicultural, multimedia event, including films, music, speeches and a live performance of The Vagina Monologues, aims to increase awareness of and raise funds to fight violence against women and children. Admission for the February 10 event costs $18 at the door, $15 in advance, $12 for students and military.

LA REUNION DE EL FUERTE. Fort Lowell Park. East parking lot off Glenn Road. A free, self-guided walking tour to historic sites in The Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood. February 10, 12:30 to 4 p.m.

DESIGNER SHOWHOUSE 2001. 5401 E. River Road. 624-2333, ext 109. The Designer Showhouse 2001 features a 3,400 square-foot hacienda style home built in 1979. The showhouse is open February 11 through March 18. Admission is $10 per person.
