ARABIAN CHARITY HORSE SHOW. See some of the world's most beautiful horses January 19 through 21 at the SAAHA Arabian Charity Horse Show. Events begin at 8 a.m. and include hunter jumpers, a liberty championship, a stallion breeders auction, freestyle reining, a mascot class, an all-breed open dressage division to fourth level and more. There is also a stallion presentation/auction and barbecue dinner Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Call Betty Stroud at 885-0020 for more information.

ARIZONA HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM. 949 E. Second St. 628-5775. Irma Moreno, dressed in period costume, presents a living history of the life of Petra Santa Cruz, who was born in the Old Pueblo when it still belonged to Mexico, January 18 at 1:30 and 3 p.m. Admission is free.

ART WALK. The ArtWalk is a free, guided tour that explores downtown galleries and studios and includes talks by artists and small, private receptions. Parking is free, but reservations are recommended. ArtWalk meets Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and includes One-Stop ArtWalks twice a month in January. Meet at the Arts District Studio at 549 N. Seventh Ave. between 5 and 5:30 p.m. January 18 for a reception and art demonstrations by 15 artists in eight studios. Call 624-9977 for information and reservations.

GRAND PIANOS ON TOUR. Muller Music Center. 1010 E. Broadway Blvd. Steinway & Sons' Crown Jewel Collection Tour of handcrafted grand pianos is on display through January 25. Music teachers, students and the public can see and play the Crown Jewel Steinways by appointment. Reservations are limited and can be scheduled by calling 884-9622. Several special events are also open to the public. Included in the collection are Steinways in Louis XV and Chippendale styles, as well as a 200th-anniversary, limited-edition Henry E. Steinway grand piano designed by Joseph Burr Tiffany.

IN SEARCH OF PITT STREET. Tucson Jewish Community Center. 3800 E. River Road. The UA media arts department in the College of Fine Arts presents Walter Rosenblum: In Search of Pitt Street and Emma Goldman: The Anarchist Guest January 18 at 7:30 p.m. Admission for the two films is $7 and $10. A dessert reception follows with guest director/producer Coleman Romalis.

NATIVE PEOPLES OF THE SOUTHWEST. Tohono Chul Park. 7366 N. Paseo del Norte. 742-6455. Trudy Griffin-Pierce discusses her ethnographic research January 21 at 2 p.m. Admission is $2 for park members and $4 for non-members. Additionally, Griffin-Pierce will sign copies of her book Native Peoples of the Southwest.

RABBI SHAWN ZEVIT. Hillel Foundation. 1245 E. Second St. Rabbi Shawn Zevit, composer/singer and director of outreach and community development for the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, leads services, teaches and inspires January 19 at 7:30 p.m. and January 20 at 9:30 a.m. at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle. A special concert takes place January 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hillel Foundation. Tickets are $7 and $5. Parking is available at Mountain Avenue and Second Street. SICK & TWISTED ANIMATION FESTIVAL. Loft Cinema. 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation is not for those with an overly refined artistic palate. The festival hosts animated short films that are too rude, crude and lewd for the more prestigious and tasteful Classic Festival of Animation. Short animated films to be screened include The Hangnail, Wheelchair Rebecca, Rejected, Angry Kid and Beat the Brat, among others. The festival begins January 19 and continues through February 17. Tickets are $7 at the door or in advance through Ticketmaster at 321-1000.

Out of Town

WINTER NATURE TOURS. Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory. Birds of prey and sandhill cranes are the stars of the winter nature tours hosted by the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory. Half-day tours, which depart from Bisbee's historic district at 9 a.m. and return by 12:30 p.m., continue through February 25. The $30-per-person tours include transportation in a 15-passenger bus. Hawk Stalk tours depart at 8 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. The fee is $55 per person and includes transportation and lunch at a local restaurant. AEROS: THE ROMANIAN GYMNASTICS TEAM. Centennial Hall. University of Arizona. 621-3341. Sponsored by UApresents. February 2, 8 p.m.

V-DAY. Various locations downtown. This multicultural, multimedia event, including films, music, speeches and a live performance of The Vagina Monologues, aims to increase awareness of and raise funds to fight violence against women and children. Admission for the February 10 event costs $18 at the door, $15 in advance, $12 for students and military.
