ARCHAEOLOGY DIG. Sabino Canyon Ruin. Old Pueblo Archaeology Center offers hands-on training in archaeological excavation at the Sabino Canyon Ruin November 18 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Individuals dig for pottery, stone, bone and other artifacts plus participate in a two-hour question-and-answer session. Minimum age is 12. The cost of the dig is $35 per person or $50 for a two-day program. Directions to the ruin are provided upon pre-registration. Call 798-1201 to register and for more information.

ARCHAEOLOGY TOURS. The Center for Desert Archaeology offers group or individual tours of the significant sites in the Tucson Basin. Choose from ancient rock art, Hohokam ballcourt villages and more. Call 885-6283 for information; reservations are requested 24 hours in advance.

BOOT-FITTING CLINIC. Summit Hut. 5045 E. Speedway Blvd. Internationally renowned boot-fitter Phil Oren conducts a free seminar November 16 at 7 p.m. Oren shares his many years of boot-fitting experience and advice on foot issues. NIGHT WALKS. Saguaro National Park East. 3693 S. Old Spanish Trail. Take a walk on the wild side with a naturalist-guided excursion into the Sonoran Desert twice a month on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. Naturalists discuss and demonstrate nighttime adaptations and scan the skies with an audible bat detector. The free program is open to all, and reservations are required. Call 733-5153 to reserve a space.

OREINTEERING CLUB. Beginners are welcome to attend this month's event, which is approximately 25 minutes west of Marana in the Silverbell Mountains November 19. A free beginner's clinic covering the basics of the sport is offered before the event starts. Courses are set at five different skill levels. Admission is $3 per person for members and $8 for non-members, and $5 and $10 per team. Bring a compass and a whistle (or rent them for $1 each). TOHONO CHUL PARK. 7366 N. Paseo del Norte. 742-6455. Walk in the Park tours, overviews of the park's 48 acres and its flora and fauna, are offered at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and at 1 p.m. Sunday. Art in the Park tours, docent-guided looks at gallery exhibits, are at 11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The park offers additional guided tours for your enjoyment. Birds of Tohono Chul provides opportunities to observe the many species frequenting the park, and meets at 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Grounds are open from 7 a.m. to sunset daily. Exhibit hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Greenhouse hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Admission is $2. Call 742-6455 for a daily event schedule.
