Combining Latin melody with the energy of West African music, the dancers, singers and drummers explode with sticks and flashing blades, high-flying kicks and a ferocious athletic display November 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range in price from $22 to $34.

NOCHE DE GALA. Tucson High Magnet School auditorium. Corner of Sixth Street and Euclid Avenue. The Tucson High Magnet School performs a winter festival of Mexican music and dance November 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. In addition, the folklorico group Los Tucsonenses presents folk dances with authentic music and costumes from various regions of Mexico. The mariachi group Rayos del Sol also performs. Admission is $4. Children under 10 are admitted free.

BALLROOM DANCE WORKSHOPS. Armory Park Center ballroom. 220 S. Fifth Ave. 770-9540. The Fall Footnotes dance workshops begin November 18. Learn Viennese waltz basics and groupings at 10 and 11 a.m., or flirty rumba at 1 and 2 p.m. Classes are $15 each. Discounts are available with early registration and multiple classes.

CALL TO DANCE. The Kalinka Russian Dancers are auditioning new members for ongoing performances with the Arizona Balalaika Orchestra. Beginners and experts in ballet, tap, jazz, folk or gymnastics are welcome. Costumes are provided. Call 743-7976 for more information.

Living Medicine begins its fall program with Shamanic Dance, featuring live drumming, movement and healing November 18 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Cost of the class is $15. Additionally, a Shamanic Journeying group, a method of finding guidance to manifest healing, begins November 30 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The cost of that class is also $15.

SIZZLING SALSA. International Arts Center. 516 N. Fifth Ave. 321-0235. Take a workshop and seduce your senses with the Latin dances of salsa and meringue Tuesday evenings from 8 to 9 p.m. through December for beginning and intermediate dancers. For those of you who are more advanced, join the Friday workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5.

ZUZI! Zuzi! Little Theater. 738 N. Fifth Ave (in the YWCA). The ZUZI! Move It Dance Company presents The Women's Initiative for Youth and Elders, a multicultural, intergenerational dance project that seeks to guide women through critical passages in their lives. Classes are from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and continue through spring 2001. Applications are now being accepted; no dance experience is necessary. For more information call 629-0237.
