BICAS. 44 W. Sixth St. BICAS offers the build-a-bike program for all. Take part in the eight-session course and fix up old bikes for the community. Classes are ongoing. Cost ranges from $15 to $60. Call 628-7950 for information.

DOWNTOWN SATURDAY. This week's Downtown Saturday Night features Cosmic Debris from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Ronstadt Transit Center, Sixth Avenue and Congress Street. The Carpet Bag Brigade plays from 7 to 10 p.m. on Arizona Avenue south of Congress Street. Stroll down to the Fifth Street Stage on Fourth Avenue (in front of Magpies) for Sabra from 7 to 10 p.m. Stop by Winsett Park, between Seventh and Eighth streets, to listen to Fun With Dirt from 7 to 10 p.m.

FAMILY BARBECUE. The Tucson Racquet and Fitness Club welcomes the public to join its members on Friday evenings for family barbecues all summer. Enjoy the Club's parklike grounds from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 4001 N. Country Club Road. Call 795-6960 for information.

FARMERS' MARKETS. Two Farmers' Markets take place on the weekend: From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, vendors sell fresh produce, teas, honey, jams, lemon curd and natural beef at Park Mall, 5870 E. Broadway Blvd.; and from 7 a.m. to noon Sundays, more than 20 vendors hawk similar wares and treats at St. Philip's Plaza, at River Road and Campbell Avenue.

FLANDRAU SCIENCE CENTER. UA campus. 621-STAR. The July shows are: In Search of New Worlds, Under Arizona Skies, Adventures in the Solar System, Our Place in Space and Light Years from Andromeda. Exhibit admission is $3, $2 for children 14 and under, or free with a theater ticket purchase. Telescope viewing is free. Daytime exhibit hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday; evening hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. MOVIE NIGHT. 3850 E. 44th St. 745-9175. Nimbus Tap Room hosts a movie night from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Wednesday nights. This Wednesday watch Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo and The Birds.

NEEDLEPOINT CONSULTATION. Sundance Needleworks. 7038 E. Broadway Blvd. 886-8886. Jo Ippolito Christensen, author of The Needlepoint Book, gives advice on your current, new and old needlepoint projects from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.

OPEN HOUSE. Derechos Humanos, an Arizona human rights organization, presents an open house celebrating their sixth anniversary at 6 p.m. Friday, July 16. The celebration includes a potluck dinner and live music and takes place at the Derechos Humanos office, 631 S. Sixth Ave. A donation of $5 is accepted at the door. Call 770-1373 for information.

WHITE ELEPHANT SALE. Humane Society of Southern Arizona. 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd. Young volunteers in the Humane Society's Dog Days of Summer program present a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 17. Proceeds benefit the animals in the shelter. Call 321-3704, ext. 168 for information.

WINE TASTING. Tucson Botanical Gardens. 2150 N. Alvernon Way. 326-9689. Enjoy a cool summer evening with complimentary wine tasting and romantic music from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21. The featured wines are from Callaghan Vineyards with Kent Callaghan and Jon Rogers on hand to discuss them. Admission is $4, $3 for seniors and children under 12 free.
