WOMEN'S WORK: Those mild-mannered folks at Antigone Books blow their covers--and rock your socks off--with their Solstice Dance Party. But there's a method to this madness: In addition to the seasonal shift, the party celebrates the 10th anniversary of KXCI's Broad Perspectives radio program, and Antigone's own 25th anniversary.

The bash will feature Broad Perspectives' Susie B. and Jenny, spinning everything from rock and world beat to salsa and country. There will also be plenty of chow and refreshments.

All the action runs from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, December 19, in the Mat Bevel Institute, 530 N. Stone Ave. Advance tickets are $5, available at Antigone Books. Tickets are $6 at the door. For information, call 792-3715.

TIME TO DANCE: Kids of all ages leap across the stage when A Time to Dance Studio presents their annual children's holiday performance.

This year features a full-length version of Swan Lake, and Christmas Dances. Troupe Director Dee Dee Doell calls it "an energetic blend of classical ballet, pointe, jazz and modern styles by highly skilled dancers of all ages."

Indeed, the cast ranges in age from 4 to adult. They're all a part of this stellar little outfit created as an alternative to high-priced dance studios, many of which emphasize too much competition and unrealistic expectations, Doell says.

The free performance is at 2 p.m. Friday, December 18, in the Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway. For information, call 327-5137.

SOLSTICE AT ZENITH: Pay your universal respects at Zenith Center's Communion with the Mother--A Solstice Event.

This multi-media outing features photography and original poetry by Jeffrey Brooks, accompanied with a performance by the ZUZI Move It Dance Lab.

Join them at
7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 19, in the Zenith Dance Center, 330 E. Seventh St. Admission is $7, $5 for students. Call 327-9868 for details.

BASIN AND RANGE: Join Pima County Parks and Recreation as they scout the surrounding terra firma in their ongoing series of treks through Tucson's mountains. Trips last three to four hours, and hikers should bring at least 1.5 liters of water, and sturdy hiking boots. This week's trail blazing will take place in the Starr Pass area.

The free hike begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, December 19. For meeting location and other information, call 740-2680. TW
