BOTANICAL GARDENS. Summer hours at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The TBG nursery is closed until October. Guided tours of the gardens are at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Saturday. Regular attractions include Birds and Gardening tours at 9 a.m. Tuesday; Gardening for the Newcomer from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first Thursday and third Saturday of the month; the Native Seeds/SEARCH mini-museum of ethnobotanical displays, open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and the TBG library, open from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Call 326-9255 for information. Regular admission to the gardens is $3, $2 for seniors, and free for members and children under 12.

BE BOTANICAL! The Tucson Botanical Gardens invites everyone to attend their open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 22. There will be entertainment for the kids, door prizes and refreshments for all. Local artist Sara Schmerl shows her watercolor series of the private garden of local plant designer Ron MacBain and Desert Artisans will have botanical illustration demonstrations and selling their works. GARDEN DEMONSTRATIONS. Free one-hour demonstrations are offered by the Pima County Cooperative Extension at 9 a.m. Wednesdays at the Wilmot Library, 530 N. Wimot Road. On Wednesday, September 25, Ed Stather discusses Planting and Pruning Roses. Call 628-5628 for information.

GREEN VALLEY GARDENING. Green Valley Baptist Church. 1111 N. La Cañada. The Green Valley Cooperative Extension presents a series of free gardening lectures and demonstrations to the public on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. On Tuesday, September 24, Ken Bichl talks about Planting Trees and Shrubs.
