Listings FALL READING SERIES. UA Modern Languages Auditorium. The Poetry Center at The University of Arizona begins its 1997 Fall Reading Series with Leslie Scalapino on Wednesday, September 24. Among Scalapino's most recent publications are: The Front Matter, Dead Souls, Green and Black: Selected Writings, and The Return of Painting, The Pearl, and Orion/A Trilogy. Considered one of the most accomplished, innovative writers in America, she has received two NEA fellowships, the American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation, and the Poetry Center Award from San Francisco State University. BISBEE POETRY FESTIVAL. Bisbee comes alive with readings, poets, and workshops Friday through Sunday, September 26 through 28. The festival begins at 7 p.m. Friday with readings by Will Inman, Charlie King, and Rita Magdaleno at the Lowell School Auditorium. On Saturday, the day begins with workshops from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; at 7 p.m. enjoy readings by Barbara Kingsolver, Cristi Luna, and Becky Reyes at the Lowell School Auditorium; then at 9:30 p.m. head to the Lyric Plaza in Historic Bisbee for a street dance. On Sunday, readings by Becky Byrkit, Carlos Cortez, Carlos Cumpian, and David Dellinger begin at 2 p.m. at the Lowell School Auditorium. There will also be a Bookfest, Performance Contest, and more. TELLING TALES. The art of storytelling is alive and well at the Fourth Annual Tales Of Arizona...Then & Now storytelling festival Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27. Enjoy a Concert of Stories at the University of Arizona Center for English as a Second Language Building on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for children and families, and from 8:45 to 10:15 for adults and families. There is a Storytelling Conference from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Arizona Historical Society Auditorium, featuring Keynote speaker Dr. Adela Allen, and including workshops on Telling to the Ages and From Page To Stage. Registration at the door is $45, $35 for TOT members. Have colorful fun at a free Tie-Dye workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Arizona State Museum lawn.
