DOWNTOWN SATURDAY. The downtown Arts District is the place to play all day and all night on Saturday, August 16. Watch for swashbuckling buffoonery at 8, 9, and 10 p.m. in the Arizona Alley with Thee Dueling Idiots. Get funky with a rhythmic fusion of traditional Spanish, African, and Mexican folk music from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Ronstadt Transit Center with Homero Ceron & Cool Breeze; and don't miss Jim Culver's Tucson reunion performance from 7 to 10 p.m. at Winsett Park, 316 N. Listings FILM FEST. St. Philip's In the Hills Episcopal Church. 4444 N. Campbell Ave. The Gay and Lesbian Spirituality Group of St. Philip's presents a film extravaganza Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16. On Friday, The Celluloid Closet screens at 5:45 p.m., followed by The Incredible True Story of Two Girls in Love at 8 p.m. On Saturday, The Sum of Us screens at 5:45 p.m., followed by Beautiful Thing at 8 p.m. Admission is free, but $5 donations will gratefully be accepted, with proceeds going to both Wingspan and St. Philip's. FOUNDER'S DAY. Join in commemorating the founding of El Presidio de San Agustín de Tucson at a Founder's Day Celebration. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 17, with El Gran Baile, at the Tucson Community Center. There will be dancing, mariachis, a Chinese Dragon dance, and music by Mona Mayo and the Saguaro Band. In addition, La Doña de Tucson for 1997-'98, Esther Don Tang, will be introduced. The celebration continues with a Flag Raising ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, at Viente de Agosto Park between Congress Street and Broadway, and a Celebrity Waiter Breakfast at the Holiday Inn Broadway at 9:30 a.m. Festivities conclude Sunday, August 24, with Mass celebrated by Bishop Manuel Moreno at St. Augustine's Cathedral at noon. The Los Descendientes Awards Presentation with Governor Symington and Mayor George Miller follows at 2 p.m., with the Día de San Agustín Fiesta at the Arizona Historical Society, 949 E. MOON WALK. The Valley of the Moon. 2544 E. Allen Road, north of Prince Road, east of Tucson Boulevard. Escape the searing summer heat with a cool "Moon Stroll" from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 20. Take your time and wander through the pathways, caverns, pools, and gardens of this 74-year-old Arizona Historic Site, sure to delight children and adults of all ages. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Call 323-1331 for information.

POOCH PARTY. Clues Unlimited. 123 S. Eastbourne. Emily the guinea pig, the Clues Unlimited mascot, is having her first birthday party and everyone is invited! The Humane Society of Tucson invites animal and mystery lovers to come celebrate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 16. In addition to carrot cake, free pet-care information, and goody-bags for the kids, there will be cute and cuddly animals available for adoption and a visit from Chance, the Humane Society's shaggy-dog mascot. SQUEAKY CLEAN. Clean the desert dust off your jalopy and support the YMCA's National Youth Project from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 16, at Pizza Hut, 1502 W. St. Mary's Road. Proceeds from the by-donation cAR wash will benefit NYPUM, a diversionary program for at-risk youth. Call Curtis Stokelin at 623-5200 for information.

SUMMER SUN DRIVE. The Tucson Planning Council for the Homeless needs your donations of unused or new water bottles, sunscreen, summer hats and sunglasses to help Tucsonans on the street fight the summer heat. Drop off your donations at any of the following locations: The American Red Cross, 3915 E. Broadway; St. Francis de Sales Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco; The Salvation Army Hospitality House, 1021 N. 11th Ave; or The Salvation Army Amphi Corps, 218 E. Prince Road. Call 881-1794 for information.

WOMEN'S WELLNESS CAMP. The YMCA of Tucson invites women to unwind and re-charge at its annual Women's Wellness Camp, October 16 through 19. This weekend getaway at the Triangle Y Ranch Camp near Oracle, Arizona, offers women an opportunity to enjoy swimming, horseback riding, massage, aqua fitness, stress management seminars, facials, journal writing, mountain biking, hiking--as few or as many activities as desired. Discounts are available for YMCA members and non-members registering before September 15. Financial assistance is available through the YMCA Scholarship Program. Call 623-5200 for information. TW
