KIDS
ARCHAEOLOGY FOR ALL. Old Pueblo Archaeology Center presents Open1, a chance for kids ages 5 and up to learn about different cultures by participating in the excavation of a make-believe archaeological site. In addition to dig time, each session includes an indoor craft activity and instruction in artifact cleaning and interpretation. Cost is $35 for four 90-minute Saturday sessions, or $10 per individual session. Special rates and dates are available for groups. Call 798-1201 for registration and information.
Listings BUILD-A-BIKE. BICAS Youth Underground Build-A-Bike program is an eight-session program for adults and kids, offering extensive hands-on training for basic bicycle mechanics. In addition to learning new skills, you'll also be helping your community by fixing up old bikes and getting them back on the streets. Students are required to complete a 25-hour apprenticeship and final exam to earn their first bicycle. Classes are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. CONCERT FOR KIDS. Tohono Chul Park. 7366 N. Paseo del Norte. Singer/songwriter Patty Horn performs songs about the desert for kids at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8. There will be children's activities for pre-schoolers through fifth graders prior to the concert, including face painting and book making. Tickets for the Concert is $2, $1 for kids ages 6 and under. The pre-concert activities are $1 and $2. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring pillows or blankets, as seating will be on brick terraces and seat walls. Both events require reservations. KIDS' CLUB. Bookman's Used Books. 1930 E. Grant Road. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum will visit Kids' Club from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, to teach kids about the amazing things in the desert around us. Kids' Club is free, and open to all. Call 325-5767 for information.
SAFETY FAIR. Humane Society of Tucson. 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd. Parents, kids and their pets are invited to Safety Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 7. The entire family will help folks to identify, avoid and cope with the many hazards in our homes and desert environments. Organizations like Southwest Rescue Dogs, the Tucson Police Department, and the Pima County Sheriff's Department will have demonstrations, and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and members of Tucson Wildlife Rehab will teach children how to identify native creatures as friend or foe, and to help them and their pets to stay out of harm's way.
