VIDEO SERIES: Alfonso Moises, UA media arts associate professor, opens La Raza: Diversity and Identity in Mexican and Mexican American Art, a visual art exhibition continuing through February 29 at the UA Museum of Art, with a free screening of three videos he produced and directed about Mesoamerican culture. The first, "Sexuality in Mesoamerica," screens at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8, in the museum, located on southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway on the UA campus. Subsequent screenings will be on Thursday, February 15 and 22.

Downtown Saturday Night: Start the Downtown Saturday events early with a late afternoon matinee of Treasures of the Sierra Madre, starring Humphrey Bogart, at 4 p.m. at The Screening Room, 127 E. Congress St. Admission is $4. By the time you emerge, the sun will be setting and the Arts District stirring with Downtown Saturday Night activities ranging from street performance to gallery openings, sit-down meals to sidewalk café seating.

Highlights include: Gospel Music Workshop of America in concert from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Ronstadt Transit Center, Sixth Avenue and Congress Street; "Other Grotesque Things: A Yoruba Folk Tale Creation Story," performed by the talented Djenaba Kouyate, at 7:30 p.m. at Real Me Land of the Pharaohs, 274 E. Congress St.; and a drum party with dino-drummer Stew Mortimer and friends, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Winsett Park, Fourth Avenue and Seventh Street. Call 624-9977 for information.

SYMPHONIC SERENADE: Musicians from Tucson Junior Strings, Tucson High Magnet School and the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra join forces in a celebratory concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 4, in the newly renovated Tucson High School auditorium, 400 N. Second Ave. Program features selections by Tchaikovsky, Bach and Beethoven. Tickets are $4 and $7 at the door. Call 323-7166 for reservations and information.

CLAY PLAY: Join exhibiting artist Marcy Wrenn for a demonstration of hand-building clay forms from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, February 4, in the Exhibit House at Tohono Chul Park, 7366 N. Paseo del Norte. THE PEOPLE WHO DO THAT: Last seen in October, Tucson's hilarious sketch comedy troupe comes out of hibernation early for a free show for the masses at 10 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Access Tucson, 124 E. Broadway. They're doing a "live-to-tape" shoot for a new series, Breakfast with the People Who Do That, set to premiere on Access Tucson sometime this month. Topics include public beatings and blind dates, with free tattoos for the first 50 people through the door. Have fun and perform a public service at the same time: Says artistic director Robert Topping, "It's important to have an audience there laughing and whooping it up, since there's no laugh track."
