Cheap Thrills

INNER MOGULS: The Arizona Small Business Association offers a workshop called Success Is A Learned Behavior.

That's right, these financial Skinnerians will focus on the essential elements of grabbing some gravy, or simply establishing a continually solvent business. Participants will be helped to identify their own angry inner bums, and cast those barriers aside. They'll also learn how to create "money magnets" for attracting business resources.

The free discussion will be led by Barbara Leuin, Ph.D., founder and president of Leuin Management Group, who totes more than 18 years of teaching, corporate planning and organizational consultation under her highly successful belt.

Workshop runs from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, 445 S. Alvernon Way. Call 886-6588 for details.

URBAN FEST: Hit the lively stretches of the metropolitan core on February 1, as the carpet rolls out for another Downtown Saturday Night.

Gospel music takes center stage as part of a celebration of Afro-American History Month, when singers under the direction of Howard Walton belt out their rapturous melodies, including anthems, spirituals and freedom songs, all at the Ronstadt Transit Center from 7 to 10 p.m. A teen gospel choir, meanwhile, stretch their chords in the Hotel Congress lobby, beginning at 8 p.m.

A different sound will emanate from The Grill, as the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Flute and String Trio warm their strings from 7 to 9 p.m.; and the Tucson Musician's Showcase features Jess Hawk Oakenstar from 7 to 10 p.m. at Fourth Avenue's Winsett Park.

The customary horse-drawn carriages will be running throughout, and downtown galleries will be wide open to visitors. For information, call 624-9977.

SANTA RITA SCENE: Located in the shadows of the magnificent Santa Rita Mountains, one little town has its own share of stunning scenery, highlighted by this year's Tubac Festival of the Arts.

Crafts, fine arts and plenty of food--from Native American, French and Mexican to Greek--will be on tap, along with ongoing entertainment including theatrical and jazz performances. More than 300 arts and crafts booths are slated for this year's festival. And the town's year 'round galleries, shops and studios will be open and clamoring for your cash.

Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Saturday, February 1, through Sunday, February 9. Admission is free. Tubac is 45 miles south of Tucson on I-19, Exit 40. For details, call 398-9296 TW
