LEGISLATURE '96. The Social Action Council hosts Our '96 Legislature: Democracy in Action? at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 14, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4831 E. 22nd St. This event is a panel discussion of Arizona State Legislators including Senator Ruth Solomon and Representatives Lou Ann Preble, Andy Nichols and Dan Schottel. WOMEN'S CONFERENCE UPDATE. The Friendship Association hosts a lecture by Joann Cox and Mary Kuo, attendees of the fourth World Conference on Women last September in Beijing. WOMEN'S MINI-CONFERENCE. The Woman's Studies Advisory Council hosts a mini-conference entitled Women Make Communities Work: From Grass Roots to Global, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at the University of Arizona. Speakers will discuss how to organize and facilitate women leaders in the Hispanic community, local-global linkages and political aspects of women in leadership roles. Cost is $12 and includes continental breakfast and lunch. Deadline for registration is January 19. Call the Women's Studies office for registration and information.

DESERT CRONE SOCIETY. The Desert Crone Society, a group for women over 50 years of age that celebrates aging, meets at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 13, at the Main Library, 101 N.
