The Seventh Zeitgeist Season of Jazz at the Institute concerts is perhaps the most ambitious so far, with seven or eight gigs planned. Dates are now firm for the following performances, says Zeitgeist director Steve Hahn. All shows start at 8 p.m. and are held at the Mat Bevel Institute:

Saturday, Nov. 8

John Hollenbeck's Claudia Quintet
Hollenbeck, percussion; Chris Speed, saxophones; Ted Reichman, accordion; Matt Moran, vibraphone; Drew Gress, bass
Tickets: $12 advance, $14 day of show

Friday, Nov. 14

Conference Call Quartet
Gebhard Ullmann, tenor sax, bass clarinet; Michael Jefry Stevens, piano; Joe Fonda, bass; Gerry Hemingway, drums
Tickets: $12 advance, $14 day of show

Saturday, Jan. 17

Charles Gayle/Michael Bisio Duo
Gayle, tenor sax; Bisio, bass

Confirmation of the following gigs, slated for the spring of 2004, are still pending but will be nailed down soon.

  • Bobby Bradford, the pioneering cornetist and former Ornette Coleman sideman, with his quartet.
  • Trombonist Roswell Rudd, with guitarist Duck Baker.
