We Believe That We Will Win

This issue goes to press before the outcome of the U.S. vs. Belgium World Cup match has been decided, so we're not sure whether the FC Tucson game on Friday, July 4 will be a continuing celebration of soccer in America or a "hey, let's still enjoy this game that we decided that we like over the last few weeks" experience, but there's no question that in June, soccer was having a moment here in Tucson. Bars downtown were full of red jerseys and enthusiasm for the world's beautiful game, so why not extend that excitement to Tucson's local team, which is having a moment of its own lately.

FC Tucson is currently leading its 64 team nationwide league (the PDL) in wins, goals and goal differential, has locked up a playoff spot and a bicycle kick by forward Odaine Sinclair was number one on ESPN's top 10 plays earlier this season.

The Fourth of July festivities at Kino North Stadium, at Ajo and Country Club, starts at 5:15 p.m. with a match to determine the best local team in Southern Arizona, continues with the FC Tucson vs. Albuquerque Sol match at 7:30 p.m., then concludes with a fireworks display following the game at 9:45. Tickets are $10 through fctucson.com or at the door, with a limited number of discount tickets available at eegee's locations.
