Stop Soldier Suicide Awareness Event

Thursday, Sept. 18, Armory Park

About 50 other cities across the country are participating in a Stop Soldier Suicide awareness event--creating cemetery displays with 22 white crosses to represent the 22 military veterans lost to suicide every day. In Tucson, this takes place Thursday, Sept. 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Armory Park. Organizers hope the project raises awareness and also brings resources together with local nonprofits attending to provide information for military veterans with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder, and those who care for them. Tucson artist Charlie Spillar is involved in organizing this event through his nonprofit Healing Arizona Veterans. For more on what Spillar is doing, visit his blog at healingarizonaveterans.wordpress.com or the event Facebook page. On the national effort, go to stopsoldiersuicide.org.
