LOOSE DEVILS

Local hotshots Sun Bones will be closing out an eventful, albeit short but successful summer tour, the introduction of new member Laura Kepney-Adner (Silver Thread Trio, the Cordials) and somewhat an amicable, but still unfortunate departure of multi-instrumentalist Evan John Casler. They are also getting around to filming their first official music video for "You're Gonna Die," a celebratory and anthemic paene to youthful invincibility that might be the band's finest song to date. It will be filmed during an afternoon performance, where in typically grandiose fashion, Sun Bones will be shutting down an entire city block (Pennington at Church St.) on Sunday, Dec. 7. The event begins at 1 p.m. with an opening slot by Adara Rae & the Homewreckers, followed by Sun Bones' own set and the filming of the video. According to the quartet's press release, "Sun Bones is filming our first music video, and you get to be in it! ... All are welcome to participate. Come in normal clothes, business casual, or post-apocalyptic costume—think eclectic, torn, dirty, strange or otherwise scavenged-looking clothes. ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS. NOT EVEN TOY WEAPONS." In other words, show up in attire suggesting you've been involved in a violent act of some sort, but ditch the contraband. For more info about the shooting, er, filming as well as how you can contribute via an Indiegogo campaign, see sunbones.com.

TORNADO IN A TRAILER PARK

2014 has also proved to be a banner year for Texas Trash and the Trainwrecks, who are as definitive to Tucson as any band you care to name. After a nearly six month wait due to backed-up orders from the manufacturers, the vinyl records of their official debut album, the stellar "Gimmie a Hand!", are finally available. An even better situation the Trainwrecks have found themselves in is a trip to Manhattan this week to perform at Bowery Electric NYC as part of a screening premiere of the film "Candy Apple," a dark comedy featuring Texas Trash himself in an acting role. Two days after the screening and New York concert, the band will return to Tucson for a late show at The Flycatcher on Friday, Dec. 5, which also serves as an unofficial after-party for X's Rialto Theater concert, taking place earlier that night. (More on X in this week's Primer.) Local blues-punks Musk Hog begin The Flycatcher show at 11 p.m. Find out more at theflycatchertucson.com

BEWITCH YOU

While we're at it, let's talk about yet another local band who have enjoyed a pretty triumphant 12 months: That's right, I'm referring to Burning Palms, the self-proclaimed "most hated band in Tucson." Following an absolutely stage-demolishing homecoming performance at The District Tavern a couple of weeks ago, which followed a largely successful five-week nationwide tour (including a showcase at New York's annual CMJ festival), which followed the release of the group's astoundingly awesome self-titled second record, will be a free three-set show at Che's Lounge on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Being that brevity is one of Burning Palms' greatest assets, there's little doubt that witnessing a very elongated performance will be semi-new territory for the quintet, but for an act that progresses as rapidly as Burning Palms does, it goes without saying that they'll likely pull out some new tricks alongside the greatest hits. DROPPING QUARTERS FOR JANE

Of course, that's not all happening in town this week. Avant-funk dance band The Pork Torta will perform on a bill that features the no-frills, affecting rock 'n' roll of Hermanitos as well as Shindaggers at La Cocina on Thursday, Dec. 4 (admission is free; see Lacocina.com for details). Also on Dec. 4 will be the wonderful fiesta-rock of Justin Valdez y los Guapos at Sky Bar (admission is also free; more info at skybartucson.com) at 10 P.M. Some of Tucson's finest hip-hop acts including Diversity Higher, Stacc Styles, Marley B, People From the Sun, Cedric "CJ" McCoop and others for the 6th Annual Casas De Los Ninos Charity Concert the same night at The Flycatcher ($7 gets you in), while Black One brings another installment of his always excellent Chronicles Noir hip-hop showcases to The District Tavern on Friday, Dec. 5 (donations suggested, also benefiting Casas De Los Niños) at 10 p.m..
