The truth is neither party is concerned with the needs of the American people and the duties and obligations of running this country for the good of all has taken a backseat to petty party slap fights, political theater for fund raising and contempt for the people, the Constitution and the rule of law.

The days of voting for a candidate have long passed and most of the people that are still voting are voting against the people they fear not exactly what the founders had in mind.

If we the people want our country back it is going to be a long hard slug-fest at the poles trying to get these so-called representatives to start doing their jobs again.

When the politicians complain that TV turns the proceedings into a circus, it should be made clear that the circus was already there, and that TV has merely demonstrated that not all the performers are well trained. Edward R. Murrow (1908-1965)

There is only one thing I use the radio for -- playing an oldies channel for my dog to listen to on the porch.

Talk radio is like graffiti without taking the time to think about something before you put it out in the universe.

In retrospect, talk radio was like the canary in the coal mine and should have given us a clue as to what would happen with social media.

The trifecta of the dumbing-down of America: Talk radio, reality television and social media. It is no coincidence that two of those are used a great deal by politicians, and one was used to get into the White House.

People believe what they believe based on a wide spectrum of sources -- some more founded in science and reality than others -- but that clich that a person's perceptions create their reality cannot be denied.

I work in a support position within a healthcare environment and I am faced everyday with people who deny that COVID-19 and its variants even exist. They defy the most simple preventative and mitigative methods to curb the spread of something they do not believe in, regardless of what the ramifications are for those around them. To them it is not real and those who do believe in it are fools.

Nevertheless, I put people into the morgue everyday who have died from COVID-19. Whether you choose to believe in something or not doesn't matter when they zip up the body bag, slide your remains into the cold dark space and close the door.

I think it is long past the time when we should stop taking potshots at one another and get back to taking care of each other and this country.

I freely admit that I have engaged in the name-calling myself, but it occurred to me along the way that this "national conversation" is more akin to schoolyard bullying and name-calling than a thoughtful exchange of ideas between fellow Americans.

I have been a life-long Independent, not because of some high-and-mighty philosophical outlook on life, I simply didn't want to get all the crap both parties send out in the mail, and now online. I am one of the lucky ones who graduated from high school with the ability to read and make up my own mind about what I think is important, but that is no guarantee either.

The first time I voted, I fell for the youth message put out by the Republican party and voted for Richard Nixon -- although, when faced with impeachment, he did what was best for the country and resigned. Shortly thereafter, I went into the new Volunteer Army and learned what it is really like to serve this country and all of its people.

I worked and lived beside people from Alaska to Alabama, from California to Connecticut, North, South and in between, GED to Master's degree, and no matter how much we may have bitched, moaned, groaned and disagreed with each other over stupid stuff, I knew they had my back and I had theirs.

I want that back for all Americans, not just one side over another. I have frequently been called pessimistic, but the truth is I try to be realistic, preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. I want us to work together again to turn things around for our country and for each other.

On a side note, the Weekly really needs to get a handle on the spam guys, unless it's part of your revenue stream, in which case WOW.

Don't get too excited just yet. We've got two Arizona counties that are dragging their heels and basically telling the people who voted in these bastions of the GOP, "We don't trust you voted the 'right' way."

If there is one thing I have learned from the new Republicans, it is they are loyal to a fault or is it loyal to the faulty? It doesn't matter, right or wrong, they will stick to their guns, boy will they stick to their guns.

Look, too many places in the world are going to hell, some of them right here in the USA, and we have got to stop sniping at each other and pull it together before we become just another shit-hole country run by a bunch of loudmouthed pretenders lead by someone more interested in power and wealth than the American people all of the American people.

It is not going to be easy. We've been doing a pretty good job of tearing each other down thanks to the perfect storm of unbridled social media, a world pandemic and the main-stream media egging on both sides while they sit back and air the mayhem and political porn 24/7 with commercial breaks and know-nothing "personalities" that have more in common with snake oil salesmen than journalists.

I may not like your politics and you may not like mine, but I have sworn an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States for all Americans. We don't have to see eye-to-eye to stand shoulder-to-shoulder to protect this country we love from charlatans and thieves who would use us against each other to take this land from "We the People."

The polls haven't even closed yet and the whiny little bitches from the GOP in Maricopa County are already asking the courts to intervene and extend the polling hours on friggin election day!

If the Democrats tried that they would be screaming to the high heavens about election rigging, fraud, malfeasance and on and on and on.

I love these selective luddites who will use and abuse social media when it suits their nefarious purposes, but then want us to return to hand-counted ballots as they spread baseless conspiracy theories on machines that have operated for years without issues.

Who knew that the 2012 election was the last free election in this country?

In general, people do not always get the governments or leaders they want, but frequently they get the governments and leaders they deserve.

After decades of indifference by the American electorate, who have treated their civil duty to vote like their occasional responsibility to serve jury duty, the current state of affairs was entirely predictable.

Add the relatively new phenomena of politicians actually making money for saying and doing things that would have disqualified their predecessors, along with the help of lies at the speed of light thanks to social media and the 24/7 political porn of traditional media, America is looking for that light at the end of the tunnel that may very well be the on-coming freight train of history.

I've listened to preachers, I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role
