Qunitessential Theatre makes a case for living the straight-and-narrow in "Biography."

Quintessential Humor

MORAL LAPSES AND PENDING SCANDAL STRIKE A TIMELY CHORD IN BIOGRAPHY, presented by Quintessential Productions.

This biting comedy by S.N. Behrman focuses upon Marian Forude, an artist who's gained plenty of notoriety for her colorful entourage of sitters. But now she's sharing that fame with the world through her upcoming biography.

Enter Leander Nolan, her former lover who has his sights set on a Tennessee Senate seat. Leander (she calls him "Bunny") is less than keen on having his fling with the tempestuous -- and libertine -- Marian disclosed. But she's hard-pressed to hide the identity of her first love. The clock is ticking as publication date nears.

"It's really funny, and though this play was written in 1931, it's quite timely, if you know what I mean," says Laura Ann Herman, Quintessential's artistic director, who also plays the part of Marian. Bob Spruance plays Leander Nolan.

Show time is 8 p.m. at The Quintessential Stage, 118 S. Fifth Ave. Performances continue at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 4 p.m. Sunday, through August 1. Tickets are $10, $8 for seniors, students and military. For reservations, call 798-0708.
