Police Dispatch

Home Sweet Armory

East Fort Lowell Road and North Alvernon Way, Aug. 25, 12:14 p.m.

According to a Pima County Sheriff's Department report, a man had a small stockpile of weaponry stolen from the homemade tent he lives in.

The report listed a .38-caliber nickel-plated handgun with a black, pearl handle and 300 rounds of ammunition as pinched, along with a 12-inch military-issue blade, an 8-inch Brazilian knife and a boot dagger.

A cutlery set with black-walnut handles was also taken. The set included a cleaver and steak, paring and chopping knives.

The man reportedly suspected a "white supremacist-type guy" and his "frail" girlfriend--both of whom he said had been harassing him lately--of taking the items.

Exercising the Greek Way

West Magee Road and North La Cholla Boulevard, Aug. 27, 11:20 a.m.

Two women complained to a maintenance worker that a man in his mid-30s walked into an apartment complex's workout room, took off his pants and started exercising with only a T-shirt on, a PCSD report said.

The worker confronted the man, who had since dressed himself, telling him "this business of you disrobing is unacceptable."

"Yeah, I know. I shouldn't have done it," the man reportedly replied, before hopping on his 10-speed bicycle and riding off.

There were no identified suspects at the time of the report.

Short Circuit

UA Area, Aug. 31, 10:08 a.m.

An exploding exit sign prompted the evacuation of a sorority house and attracted a local TV news crew seeking a story, a University of Arizona Police Department report said.

The Chi Omega sorority house mother phoned authorities when she smelled smoke. Officers found that the batteries in an exit sign above a door had erupted, reportedly for the second time in two days. There were no signs of a fire.

A KVOA Channel 4 News crew arrived at the scene and was briefed on the incident by a public relations officer.

House residents were advised to not replace the batteries until the electric wiring had been inspected.
