The Third Child Serves Tacos
Metzger Family Restaurants has announced plans to open Gio Taco downtown later this year, with a menu inspired by Brian Metzger's travels. "Whether their foundations are from the streets of Havana, the gardens of Costa Rica, the beaches of Hawaii, or the coast of Puerto Rico, our tacos will be intentionally designed to ignite a sense of adventure among our guests," he said.
Named for Metzger's stepson Giovanni, the fast-casual restaurant will be at 350 E. Congress St., in the Cadence development. Metzger's longtime friends at FORS Architecture + Interiors will design the space. Plans call for a November opening.
Gio Taco will be the company's third eatery in Tucson, joining the popular Jax Kitchen on North Oracle Road (named for Metzger's son Jack) and The Abbey on East Sunrise Drive (named for his daughter Abby).
More Beer-Food Pairings
Noble Hops is hosting a beer dinner at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, that will pair four dishes with beers from Colorado's Left Hand Brewing Co. Tickets are $40. Call 797-4677 for reservations. Noble Hops is at 1335 W. Lambert Lane in Oro Valley.
Asian Invasion
Two Chinese restaurants have opened recently. Jun Dynasty is at 2933 E. Grant Road, in the space that was the home of Amereno's Little Italy. It's currently open only for dinner, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., but I'm told the hours may expand.
China Szechwan is at 1800 E. Fort Lowell Road, in the Campbell Fair Shopping Center. It's open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Dinner and a Show
A dinner theater focusing on musical comedies is set to open next month at 13005 N. Oracle Road in Oro Valley. The Great American Playhouse will open with Pistol Pete the World's Greatest Cowboy on Aug. 22. Menu items include pizza, cheese crisps and meatball sandwiches. Beer and wine will also be offered.
