Chad's Steakhouse Closes; Diablo Burger to Open

After 22 years, Shaun and Sandi Herrington have closed Chad's Steakhouse, 3001 N. Swan Road. After dealing with a down economy and a fire last July that resulted in water damage to the building, the couple has decided to shut down the business and spend more time with their children. Word is, they are seeking new owners.

Diablo Burger is scheduled to open Saturday, May 4, at 312 E. Congress St. The restaurant, which also has a Flagstaff location, is a pioneer in the local-foods movement, and it has already signed on Sleeping Frog Farms and Chiva Risa Goat Cheese as purveyors. Diablo Burger's Derrick Widmark said he's in talks with the Moroneys of 47 Ranch to supply grass-fed beef and bratwurst/sausages by the end of summer. More info is at diabloburger.com.

Local Offerings at Falora

From an email from Ari Shapiro of Falora, an artisan pizza restaurant and espresso bar at 3000 E. Broadway: "This week Falora is proud to roll out its collaboration with local and wonderful Sleeping Frog Farms: A rotating salad and pizza, both created around the farm's fresh and unique produce. In addition to our unique and extremely well-received pies and salads, these are permanent menu items that will change regularly, based on fresh availability and season." Check out the full menu at www.Falora.com.

Arizona Hops and Vines' Bachannal Festival

From the Arizona Hops and Vines website: "We're going to bring together our great wines, microbrewed beer, The Sober Shack's homemade sodas, crafts and activities, a whole bunch of great food, and—most importantly—a great group of people to enjoy our patio, feed some goats, and drink some alcohol. Fun and debauchery for all!"

Debauchery, now that's what I am talking about! The festival, celebrating the Greek god of wine and parties, runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, in the Sonoita Valley. Wine from the Hops and Vines vineyard, beer from Borderlands Brewing and food from local Sonoita restaurants and food trucks are available. Call (888) 569-1642 or go to azhopsandvines.com for directions and info.
