The owner of Fathead Glass (513 N. Fourth Ave.) and his father are opening a bar and art gallery next to the shop. Micah Blatt said he'll take no commission on the art sold at Mr. Head's Art Gallery and Bar, and that he plans on giving the Fourth Avenue art scene a jumpstart with art walks and other events. Expect 20 beers on tap, wine and cocktails. Food from Lindy's on Fourth, Delectables, Chocolate Iguana, Magpies Gourmet Pizza and World Wide Wrappers will also be available: You can order at the bar, and Mr. Head's employees will take care of the rest. The bar is expected to open in November.
Café Jasper (6370 N. Campbell Ave., No. 160) is now Jasper Food and Mixology. Stacy LaRue bought the restaurant in June and overhauled the interior before reopening with a new name and one of the most intriguing cocktail menus in town. If bacon-infused whiskey, cucumber-infused gin and other eclectic liquors pique your interest, this place is for you. Breakfast and lunch are served from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., daily. Happy hour, Peruvian-inspired tapas and dinner are available from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; and 4 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday; 577-0326.
Ari Shapiro of Xoom Juice is opening Sparkroot in the One North Fifth building. He's working up a drink menu full of French-pressed coffee, espresso, flavored seltzer water and small-batch beer and wine. Regarding food, Shapiro mentioned house-made granola, Greek yogurt, small plates of snack foods and sandwiches ranging from panini to a gourmet version of peanut-butter-and-jelly. Sparkroot will open early and close late. Shapiro hopes to have it open early next year.
Virginia Wooters has been named executive chef at Abbey Eat + Drink, the restaurant the owners of jaxKitchen are opening on the corner of Kolb Road and Sunrise Drive. Wooters is the former executive chef at McClintock's and Wildflower. She's also done stints at the Dish and Canyon Ranch.
Tiki Tim's Grill, a converted 1970s Airstream trailer specializing in island-inspired fare, is open at the Hut (305 N. Fourth Ave.). Owner Timothy Stevens has big plans, but he's starting out with tropical-themed burgers, hotdogs and other items.
