Back-to-School Beer Tasting

When Beer 101 makes it into course catalogs, all will be right in the world. Until then we'll have to get that education from events like the back-to-school beer tasting at Maynards Market and Kitchen from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26. Pay $5 and you'll be treated to tastes of five beers and appetizers. Show a UA CatCard and get 25 percent off the purchase of beers featured in the tasting. There'll be live music on the patio, too. Maynards is located at 400 N. Toole Ave.; 545-0577.

Salud Oyster Bar and Grill

The oyster bar at the newish Salud Oyster Bar and Grill (1825 W. Valencia Road) isn't finished yet, but it's going to be awesome once it is. "You'll be able to come in and sit down, and they'll pull the oysters right out of the ice and shuck them for you right there," said manager Jesus Bonilla Jr. "Eventually, we'll carry four or five kinds of oysters from all over the world." Currently, the restaurant serves oysters, other seafood and a selection of Mexican and American foods. There's also a full bar and a happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday through Thursday; 889-2800.
