New: Nimbus Ice House

Nimbus Brewing Company is opening the Nimbus Ice House in the old My Big Fat Greek Restaurant location at 95 W. River Road. Kevin Brown, a manager at Nimbus Bistro and Brewery, said the new location is expected to open within the next two months. Additional details will be available when plans are finalized later this week.

Boca Is Open

Tacos get gourmet treatment at Boca, a new eatery in the old Greasy Tony's spot at 828 E. Speedway Blvd. Bryan Mazon, who owns the eatery with his wife, Maria Jose, said they serve 15 kinds of tacos and make the tortillas to order; basically, they offer authentic street food in an upscale atmosphere. They also serve beer and liquor, and will eventually stock more than 100 kinds of tequila. Hours: 10:30 a.m. to midnight, Sunday through Wednesday; and 10:30 a.m. to 3 a.m., Thursday through Saturday; 777-8134.

Portable Jamaican Food

You could drive right past D and D Island Grill JA without noticing it, thanks to the food truck's hard-to-find location in a parking lot at 6245 E. Broadway Blvd. However, it's well worth finding. Owners Duwayne Hall and Danny Heath serve fried fish, curried goat, jerk chicken, oxtail, beef patties and delicious fruit-juice concoctions from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., every day but Sunday; 867-0100.

Dinner for a Good Cause

H.E.A.R.T.S., a group that works to improve the lives of shelter animals, is holding a fundraising dinner at Caffe Torino (10325 N. La Cañada Drive) at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 28. $40 buys a salad, an entrée, dessert and the warm-and-fuzzy feeling that accompanies helping our warmer-and-fuzzier companions. RSVP is required by Monday, June 21. E-mail robyn@azhearts.org to RSVP.
