New: Blanco Tacos and Tequila
Once again, Fox Restaurant Concepts has introduced a new restaurant, this one called Blanco. It's at La Encantada Shopping Center. It competes with NoRTH, another Fox restaurant. Blanco gets its name from the white tequila and the clean, white look of the place; the young hostesses are dressed in white frocks. I was a guest the other night (before the official April 30 opening) and must recommend the cheese-crisp combinations (including braised short rib and avocado) and the crab enchiladas. There are more than 25 premium selections of tequila, plus cocktails and wine, at 2905 E. Skyline Drive, No. 246; 232-1007.
New: Sabra Mediterranean Restaurant
Sabra opened April 26 at 4210 E. Speedway Blvd. It's in the former space of Three Sisters, Green Bamboo and, most recently, Saigon Café. This kosher establishment is owned by Monty Blankier, who owned a delicatessen in Los Angeles. Sabra is open Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays until 3 p.m.; and closed Saturdays; 795-6060.
Finally: Frankie's Philadelphia Cheesesteaks
Daglio's has moved to the former Le Bistro space at 2574 N. Campbell Ave.; it's now called Frankie's and is open for business; 795-2665. Meanwhile, the old Daglio's space at 2745 N. Campbell Ave. already has a new tenant: Brush Fire Grill is coming soon.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Macayo's del Norte heats up on Saturday, May 5, with live entertainment and activities for adults and kids. Join the fun with mariachis, face painting, piñata breaking, karaoke and a DJ from noon until late evening. Kids eat for $1.99 all day. Macayo's is located at 7360 N. Oracle Road; 742-2141.
